Apple released iOS 26 developer beta 4 on July 22, 2025, initially as build 23A5297i. The label needs a track: this was not public beta 4. Apple issued a revised build, 23A5297m, on July 24 as public beta 1; the actual public beta 4 arrived on August 18.
The changes reported in developer beta 4 included Liquid Glass interface adjustments, new Call Screening controls, a dynamic wallpaper option, and updated onboarding screens. They were observations of that beta, not a complete official changelog or a guarantee that every detail stayed unchanged in later releases.

When did iOS 26 beta 4 come out?
iOS 26 developer beta 4 was released on July 22, 2025. It followed Apple’s June 9 preview of iOS 26, when the company opened developer testing and said a public beta would follow the next month. Apple’s June 9 announcement framed iOS 26 as a major update with a new design and changes across core apps.
Apple’s beta program has since moved on to the iOS 27 cycle. For the current program and its enrollment information, see Apple Beta Software Program; the July 2025 dates and changes below describe a historical iOS 26 release.

What was the iOS 26 beta 4 build number?
The original developer beta 4 build was 23A5297i. Apple issued a revised build, 23A5297m, on July 24, 2025, and contemporary coverage identified it with public beta 1. The build suffix therefore matters: 23A5297m was a later revised build, not the original July 22 release.
| Release | Date | Build | Track |
|---|---|---|---|
| Developer beta 4 | July 22, 2025 | 23A5297i | Developer |
| Revised release | July 24, 2025 | 23A5297m | Identified in contemporary coverage as public beta 1 |
| Public beta 4 | August 18, 2025 | Not stated in the cited contemporary report | Public; reported as corresponding to developer beta 7 |
The sequence is why “iOS 26 beta 4” can be misleading without specifying developer or public. The July 22 release was developer beta 4; public beta 4 came later and corresponded to developer beta 7.

What’s new in iOS 26 developer beta 4?
Contemporary reporting on the July 22 build noted several visible changes. These are reported beta observations rather than a verified, exhaustive Apple release log; Apple’s linked release notes were not available in a form that established a complete list.
- Liquid Glass adjustments: Some glass-like distortion and refraction effects returned after beta 3 had reduced them. This was an interface observation, not evidence that Apple had finalized the design.
- Darker notification shade: The notification area gained a darker tint while scrolling, described as a readability adjustment.
- Dynamic wallpaper: A wallpaper option cycled through color variations over the course of the day.
- Call Screening settings: Controls for unknown callers included an option to ask callers to state their reason for calling.
- Onboarding screens: New welcome and feature screens explained system and app changes after installation; some apps, including Camera, displayed welcome messaging.
- Notification summary opt-ins: Beta onboarding surfaced controls for summaries in categories such as News & Entertainment and Communication & Social. Their appearance in this beta does not establish later reliability or final availability.
These details describe what reports noted in a prerelease build. They should not be read as a promise that every item shipped unchanged in the public release.

Was iOS 26 beta 4 the public beta?
No. The July 22 release was the fourth developer beta. A revised build identified with public beta 1 followed on July 24. The fourth public beta arrived on August 18, 2025, and was reported as corresponding to developer beta 7. Developer and public beta numbering did not advance in lockstep, so the number alone does not identify the release.
What was iOS 26, beyond beta 4?
At its June 2025 announcement, Apple described iOS 26 as a broad iPhone update centered on Liquid Glass, Apple Intelligence, and app changes. Liquid Glass was presented as a translucent material that reflects and refracts its surroundings, with changes to controls, navigation, app icons, widgets, the Home Screen, and Lock Screen. Apple also announced updates to Camera, Photos, Safari, Phone, Messages, CarPlay, Apple Music, Maps, and Wallet, along with a new Apple Games app. These were iOS 26 announcement-level features, not changes specific to beta 4.

Which iPhones support iOS 26?
Apple said iOS 26 would be a free software update for iPhone 11 and later. Apple Intelligence has narrower device requirements: Apple listed all iPhone 16 models and iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. It also required Apple Intelligence to be enabled with Siri and the device language set to the same supported language. Availability can vary by language, region, and local law. General iOS 26 compatibility does not mean a phone supports Apple Intelligence.
Apple’s June 9, 2025 iOS 26 announcement is the source for its launch-era compatibility and feature framing. A beta-specific performance benchmark or measured speed result is not established for this release.
