“Snapdragon 8 Elite 2” is not the official name Qualcomm used for a chip announcement. It likely refers to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, which Qualcomm announced on September 24, 2025. Qualcomm’s lineup has since moved on to Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, so Gen 5 is no longer its newest platform.
What is the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 called?
The likely intended product is Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Qualcomm announced that name on September 24, 2025; its announcement and product brief do not identify a separate chip called “Snapdragon 8 Elite 2.” Qualcomm’s announcement gives the official product name and launch details.
Qualcomm says “Gen 5” marks the fifth generation of its premium 8-series platforms since it adopted its single-digit naming convention. That explanation appears in a Qualcomm OnQ article by Don McGuire.
There is also an important date distinction: Gen 5 was announced in 2025, but it is not Qualcomm’s newest generation as of October 8, 2026. The company now lists Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 in its 8-series lineup.

How much faster is it than Snapdragon 8 Elite?
Qualcomm’s 2025 comparisons say Gen 5 delivers a 20% CPU performance increase, a 23% GPU performance increase, and 37% faster Hexagon NPU performance than the previous Snapdragon 8 Elite. Qualcomm also claims up to 35% better CPU power efficiency and 16% overall SoC power savings versus that platform.
Those are Qualcomm-reported platform comparisons, not independent benchmark results or a promise that every Gen 5 phone will be faster by those amounts. The product brief cautions that results vary with OEM implementation and other factors. A phone’s cooling, power limits, software, and workload affect real-world speed and sustained performance.

What about Geekbench, AnTuTu and gaming benchmarks?
The cited Qualcomm materials do not provide controlled Geekbench, AnTuTu, or gaming scores for retail phones, and they do not establish a direct cross-phone test. A meaningful handset comparison needs results for named devices tested under comparable conditions; platform claims alone cannot supply those numbers.
When did it launch, and which phones use it?
Qualcomm announced Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 on September 24, 2025, saying flagship devices would launch in the coming days. It named Honor, iQOO, Nubia, OnePlus, OPPO, POCO, realme, REDMI, RedMagic, ROG, Samsung, Sony, vivo, Xiaomi, and ZTE among the expected global OEMs and smartphone brands. Being named in that announcement does not establish that a brand released a Gen 5 phone in every country.

Samsung Galaxy S26 series: regional differences matter
In February 2026, Qualcomm said its Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy variant powers the Galaxy S26 Ultra globally, while the Galaxy S26+ and Galaxy S26 use it in select regions. This is not evidence that every S26-series model worldwide has the same chipset. Check the exact regional phone specification before comparing performance or buying a particular model. See Qualcomm’s February 2026 Galaxy announcement.

Quick Recap
- Performance under sustained load: Seek tests of the exact phone for demanding games or other workloads; cooling and power settings can change results.
- Wireless features: Qualcomm lists X85 modem-RF, Wi-Fi 7 support through FastConnect 7900, and Bluetooth 6.0, but the phone maker’s implementation and regional support determine what is available in a device.
- Camera and video: The platform includes a Spectra ISP, but camera hardware, software processing, and supported recording modes vary by handset.
- Price, availability and support: These depend on the phone, market, and seller; the platform specifications do not establish current local pricing, launch availability, or software-update policy.
