There is no single fastest laptop for every job in 2026. For graphics-heavy work and gaming, the Asus ProArt P16 with an RTX 5090 Laptop GPU leads several listed graphics and game tests; the 16-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Max is a strong professional all-rounder in selected CPU and GPU tests. The right choice depends on the workload, the exact configuration and how the laptop performs under sustained load.

What does “fastest laptop” mean?

Speed is not one measurement. Single-core CPU performance can matter for lightly threaded work, while multi-core throughput is more relevant to tasks that use many processor cores. GPU performance can dominate 3D work, some creative applications and games. Sustained cooling, power limits, memory and whether a laptop is plugged in can also change the result.

Benchmarks are useful when they match the work you actually do. Compare the same benchmark and version, application or game, resolution, quality settings and laptop configuration. A laptop GPU’s power and cooling can affect results, so a model name alone does not guarantee that two laptops will perform alike.

In its 2026 laptop guide, Tom’s Hardware compares Intel, AMD, Qualcomm and Apple systems using Cinebench 2026 single-core and multi-core tests and a HandBrake 4K-to-1080p transcode. Windows laptops used balanced power where possible, while the MacBook Pro used its default automatic profile. Those results help compare the tested systems, but the different power profiles mean they are not a perfectly identical setup for every comparison. See Tom’s Hardware’s battery-and-AC testing methodology.

What do CPU benchmarks say about Apple and Qualcomm?

IT Pro reports Geekbench 6 results for tested 18-core systems: the Qualcomm Snapdragon X2-powered Asus Zenbook A16 scored 3,724 single-core and 21,914 multi-core; the Apple M5 Pro MacBook Pro 16 scored 4,268 single-core and 28,101 multi-core. These are results for those tested systems in Geekbench 6—not a direct comparison with the M5 Max or a guarantee of performance in a particular application. IT Pro’s results and review.

Tom’s Hardware also tests Intel, AMD, Qualcomm and Apple laptops with Cinebench 2026 and a HandBrake transcode. Because benchmark choice and power profile affect the comparison, use results from the test closest to your workload rather than treating any one CPU score as a universal winner. What should you check before choosing one?

  • Match the benchmark to the job. Look for the applications, games or benchmark tests you use, and compare like with like.
  • Verify the exact configuration. Confirm processor, GPU, RAM and storage for the specific laptop listing. Results from a high-end configuration should not be assumed to apply to every version of that model.
  • Consider sustained performance. Cooling and power limits can restrict performance under prolonged workloads. Notebookcheck’s 70-watt cooling-limit finding for the MacBook Pro 16 M5 Max is a concrete example of why peak hardware specifications alone do not settle the question.
  • Separate plugged-in results from battery results. Power profiles can differ across systems and affect performance. Check how a comparison was run before applying it to unplugged use.
  • Balance speed with the rest of the laptop. Memory bandwidth and core count matter for demanding work, but portability, display and battery life may matter more for a laptop you carry daily. RTINGS notes that M5 Pro and M5 Max configurations add CPU/GPU cores and memory bandwidth over base M5 configurations, while higher-end discrete GPUs in a Windows ThinkPad workstation can deliver more raw graphics performance in some workloads. RTINGS’ laptop comparisons.

Which should you buy?

Choose the Asus ProArt P16 RTX 5090 if your priority is the graphics performance shown in the cited game tests and your exact configuration suits your creative or gaming workload. Choose the MacBook Pro 16 M5 Max for a high-end professional option with strong results across selected tests, while taking its reported cooling limit into account. Consider the ZBook Ultra G1a or Razer Blade 16 when their tested Windows performance aligns with your applications, and the MacBook Air M5 when general productivity is a better fit than workstation-class speed. No single benchmark or review score replaces checking the exact configuration and workload you care about.
