A proposed class action filed in federal court in California alleges that Roblox helped facilitate minors’ gambling on outside websites using Robux. That is the plaintiffs’ claim, not a court finding. Roblox has said the sites were unaffiliated third parties misusing its branding. Later court rulings addressed claims against a virtual-casino operator, while Roblox’s 2026 filing reported that some claims had been dismissed and others remained pending.
What the lawsuit alleges
The case began with a proposed class action filed in August 2023. As Ars Technica reported when summarizing the complaint, plaintiffs accused Roblox and third-party operators of enabling minors to gamble with Robux on websites outside Roblox’s hosted experiences. The complaint named Roblox and operators including Satozuki, Studs Entertainment, and RBLXWild Entertainment.
How the alleged Robux transfers worked
According to the plaintiffs’ account, users could connect a Roblox account to a gambling site, transfer Robux in exchange for credits on that site, wager the credits on games such as blackjack or coin flips, and then transfer winnings back as Robux. The complaint alleged that Roblox’s systems enabled or profited from this activity. These mechanics and Roblox’s alleged role have not been established as facts by a final judgment.

What the complaint said about the scale
Ars Technica reported that RBXFlip’s owners claimed in the lawsuit that 7 billion Robux—described in the complaint as worth more than $70 million—was wagered on the site in 2021. The same report attributed to the owners a claim that the site’s revenue increased tenfold in 2022. These are claims attributed to the site’s owners, not independently audited figures.

The report also cited a then-existing statistic that more than half of Roblox players were 12 or younger as of 2020. That is a dated snapshot, not a description of Roblox’s current user mix. The cited materials do not establish an independently verified estimate of how many minors participated in third-party Robux gambling.
What Roblox said about the sites
Roblox’s reported position was that the gambling sites had no legal affiliation with the company and were misusing its intellectual property and branding. As Ars Technica reported from Bloomberg Law, Roblox said: “these are third-party sites and have no legal affiliation to Roblox whatsoever. Bad actors make illegal use of Roblox’s intellectual property and branding to operate such sites in violation of our standards.” This is the company’s response, not a court determination about the sites or the lawsuit.

What the 2025 ruling did—and did not—decide
On December 10, 2025, U.S. District Judge Vince Chhabria denied virtual-casino defendant Boris Said’s motion to dismiss claims under California’s Unfair Competition Law and common law. In explaining why the claims could proceed at that stage, the judge wrote: “Robux must be considered things of value because they are akin to arcade tokens.” He reasoned that Robux could qualify as things of value under any reasonable construction of the California Penal Code provisions at issue and also discussed ambiguity in California’s gambling statutes.

How to read the case’s legal significance
- Allegations are not findings. The claims that minors gambled Robux and that Roblox facilitated or profited from those transactions come from the plaintiffs’ account.
- The claims involve different defendants. The December 2025 ruling about Robux as something of value concerned a motion brought by a gambling-site defendant, not a final ruling against Roblox.
- A case proceeding is not a liability judgment. A court’s refusal to dismiss particular claims means those claims may continue at that stage; it does not prove them.
- Case status can change. Roblox’s Form 10-Q covers the quarter ended June 30, 2026, and the March discovery order addresses a specific dispute rather than the merits of the full case.
