To change the input on a Samsung TV, press Source on a standard remote and choose the port your device uses. On many Samsung Smart Remotes, press Home, move left, open Connected Devices, then select the connected device or its HDMI port. The exact labels vary by TV model, software, and country.
Before you switch inputs
Turn on the external device—such as a cable box or game console—and check that it is connected to the TV or, on models that use one, the One Connect Box. Selecting an input changes what the TV displays; it does not power on or connect the device. Samsung’s device-connection guidance explains the connection and source-selection process.
Change the input with a Samsung Smart Remote
- Press Home on the remote.
- Move left on the Home screen.
- Open Connected Devices.
- Select the connected device. If it is not identified by name, choose the HDMI port that the device’s cable is plugged into.

Change the input with a Source button
- Press Source on the remote.
- Choose the input that matches the device’s connection, such as the HDMI port used by your console or cable box.
If your remote has no Source button, use the TV’s on-screen Home or source menu to find and select the relevant HDMI input. Samsung’s US device-connection instructions describe both remote-button and on-screen-menu options.

Which menu path should you expect?
Samsung’s Colombia support page gives these generation-based examples. They are regional guidance, not a universal mapping: models, software, and country can affect the labels or route.

Samsung Colombia’s source-switching guide lists these routes. If your menus do not match, use the manual for your exact TV model rather than assuming another generation’s steps apply.

If the input is missing or there is no picture
- Check power and connection: Make sure the external device is on and its cable is connected to the TV input you intend to select. If your TV uses a One Connect Box, check the connection at the box.
- Look for the HDMI port: If the TV does not show the device by name in Connected Devices, select the HDMI port that the cable actually uses.
- Reseat cables: For a blank screen or a “Weak or No Signal” message, verify that the correct source is selected and that the cable is fully inserted. Disconnecting and reconnecting the cable may help. These checks appear in Samsung’s 2018 Q9FN Series manual; its menu and diagnostic guidance is specific to that model generation.
- Run self-diagnosis if needed: If the connection and selected source are correct but the problem remains, consult your model’s manual for the appropriate picture or sound self-diagnosis steps.
