Internet Download Manager (IDM) is Windows software for managing downloads, with browser integration, queues, scheduling, and tools for resuming interrupted transfers. The specific release “6.42 Build 9” is not verified in the official version history available here: it lists 6.42 Build 7 and Build 10, as well as later releases. Check the installed build in IDM’s About dialog and use the program’s update checker rather than assuming Build 9 is current.
What is IDM 6.42 Build 9?
IDM is a Windows download manager. Its publisher describes features for capturing downloads from supported browsers, dividing files into segments during downloading, resuming interrupted transfers, organizing files into categories, and setting up queues and schedules. These are vendor-described capabilities, not independently measured performance results.
The official product page lists Windows 7, 8/8.1, 10, and 11 as supported systems. This is the publisher’s compatibility statement, not independent testing of every Windows configuration. See IDM’s official product page.
Is 6.42 Build 9 a verified or current release?
The official version-history material surfaced for this article does not list 6.42 Build 9 or establish its release date or build-specific changes. It lists 6.42 Build 7 dated March 25, 2024, followed by 6.42 Build 10 dated May 5, 2024. The absence of Build 9 from that material does not prove it never existed; it means a date or changelog for it cannot be confirmed from the official record cited here.

What features does IDM offer?
- Browser integration: An integration module can capture browser downloads and provide IDM-related context-menu options when installed and enabled.
- Interrupted-download recovery: IDM describes resuming downloads interrupted by connection problems or shutdowns.
- Segmentation: The publisher says IDM uses dynamic file segmentation. No independent speed benchmark is established here, so this feature should not be treated as proof that IDM will be faster for a particular download.
- Queues and scheduling: Users can organize downloads into multiple queues and schedule downloads or connections.
- Organization and customization: IDM describes automatic download categories, periodic synchronization, and options to customize its main window and toolbar.
How do you install IDM and enable browser integration?
- Download IDM from the official product page, run the installer, and follow its prompts.
- Install the IDM Integration Module for the browser you use, following IDM’s setup instructions.
- Leave the integration module installed and enabled if you want IDM to take over browser downloads and provide browser context-menu features.
- Test with a browser download. If IDM does not capture it, first check whether the integration module is installed and enabled. That is the publisher’s general first check; it does not diagnose every possible cause on an individual computer.
For the publisher’s browser guidance, see its browser integration support page.
