NVIDIA designs its GPUs but outsources their manufacturing. Its FY2026 disclosures name TSMC and Samsung as wafer foundries, and list other companies for memory, packaging, assembly, and testing. NVIDIA says its supply chain is concentrated mainly in Asia, while expanding production activity in the United States and Latin America. Those facts do not identify the factory that made every GeForce GPU or retail graphics card.

Does NVIDIA make its own GPUs?

NVIDIA designs its GPU products and manages a supplier network rather than owning and operating all the factories that make them. The company describes this as a “fabless and contracting manufacturing strategy”: suppliers handle steps such as wafer fabrication, assembly, testing, and packaging. NVIDIA says outsourcing lets it avoid the costs and risks of owning manufacturing operations and focus on design, quality assurance, marketing, and customer support. NVIDIA FY2026 Sustainability Report and filings

“Who makes the GPU?” can therefore mean several different things: who designed the processor, fabricated its silicon wafer, packaged and tested the chip, or assembled the finished graphics card. Those roles may involve different companies.

Who makes the different parts of an NVIDIA GPU?

Production role Companies or technology NVIDIA names What that means
GPU design NVIDIA NVIDIA designs its GPU products; it does not follow that NVIDIA fabricates them in its own wafer factories.
Wafer fabrication TSMC and Samsung These are foundries NVIDIA names as producing semiconductor wafers. The disclosure does not assign every product or GPU generation to either foundry.
Memory supply SK Hynix, Micron, and Samsung These companies are named as memory suppliers, a distinct role from designing or fabricating the GPU itself.
Semiconductor packaging CoWoS NVIDIA identifies CoWoS as a packaging technology. It is not a GPU designer or a retail graphics-card brand.
Assembly, testing, and packaging contracting Hon Hai/Foxconn, Wistron, and Fabrinet NVIDIA names these among its subcontractors and contract manufacturers. The disclosure does not map each contractor to every product.
Retail graphics card NVIDIA and add-in-board partners A finished GeForce card can involve a board partner; NVIDIA’s filings do not provide a complete factory map by card model.

The company says it uses suppliers “such as” those named, so the list should not be read as exhaustive or as proof that every listed supplier participates in every GPU. NVIDIA FY2026 Sustainability Report and filings NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards

Where are NVIDIA GPUs manufactured?

NVIDIA describes its supply chain as concentrated mainly in Asia, with expansion into the United States and Latin America. That broad description is more accurate than saying all NVIDIA GPUs are made in Taiwan or that all are made in the United States. A supplier’s location, a chip’s wafer-fab location, and the place a finished card is assembled are separate facts.

Disclosed U.S. production activity

In an announcement dated April 14, 2025, NVIDIA said Blackwell chip production had started at TSMC’s Phoenix, Arizona plants. The same announcement described packaging and testing in Arizona with Amkor and SPIL, as well as AI-supercomputer manufacturing plants with Foxconn in Houston and Wistron in Dallas. NVIDIA said mass production at the Texas plants was expected to ramp within 12–15 months; that was a forecast made in April 2025, not confirmation of each line’s current output. NVIDIA’s U.S. manufacturing page lists partner facilities spanning chips, packaging, optics, and systems. It says its map reflects facilities operational, under construction, or announced as of July 1, 2026, and cautions that status can change and may not be real-time. The map is therefore not a list solely of GPU wafer fabs. NVIDIA U.S. manufacturing

Does this tell you where a particular GeForce card was made?

No. NVIDIA identifies GeForce RTX GPUs for gaming desktop and laptop PCs and discusses add-in-board manufacturers, but its public disclosures do not give an exhaustive country-of-origin map for each retail SKU. The disclosed Blackwell production at TSMC’s Phoenix plants, for example, does not establish that a particular GeForce card was fabricated, packaged, or assembled there.

To determine a specific card’s origin, look for the country-of-origin marking on its packaging or product label and check the manufacturer’s documentation for that exact model. Do not infer a finished card’s origin from the location of a foundry, a partner’s headquarters, or the GPU family name.
