Intel’s 0x129 microcode was distributed through motherboard BIOS updates in 2024 to mitigate a voltage-request issue affecting some 13th- and 14th-generation desktop processors. Whether you can install it depends on your exact motherboard model: check that model’s manufacturer support page for the BIOS version and instructions rather than relying on a brand-wide list.

What Intel’s 0x129 patch does

Intel said incorrect processor voltage requests could result in elevated operating voltage. Its 0x129 microcode update was a preventative mitigation for processors not experiencing instability symptoms, and limits voltage requests above 1.55V, according to Intel’s 2024 announcement.

The stated purpose is to limit certain voltage requests. Intel’s announcement does not say the patch reverses physical damage or resolves every crash, so it should not be treated as a guaranteed repair for a processor that is already unstable.

How the BIOS rollout works

Motherboard makers package processor microcode in BIOS updates. Intel said it was distributing the patch to OEM and ODM partners; users generally obtain the update from the support page for their motherboard model. A BIOS release for one model is not interchangeable with another model’s firmware.

How to find the right BIOS for your motherboard

  1. Identify the exact board model. Read the model name printed on the motherboard or shown in your system information. Similar names can refer to different hardware and firmware.
  2. Open that model’s official manufacturer support page. Locate its BIOS or firmware section. Do not download a BIOS listed for a different board.
  3. Check the release notes and status. Confirm the listed microcode revision, BIOS version, release date, and whether the release is beta or stable. A historical 0x129 listing may have been superseded.
  4. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for that model. Check prerequisites and the specified update method before starting. For example, the cited ASRock H610M-HVS listing names Instant Flash; other boards may use different procedures.
  5. Prepare only what the instructions require. A USB flash drive may be needed for a compatible update method, but capacity and formatting requirements vary by model and are not established universally.

What the 2024 rollout examples can—and cannot—tell you

The listings show that MSI, ASRock, and ASUS published material relating to the mitigation, but they do not establish that every motherboard from those brands received the same BIOS, or that a named beta release remains the latest option in October 2026. The reliable answer for your system is the current support page and instructions for its exact motherboard model.
