How do I add a weather widget to my Home Screen?
First identify your phone: use the iPhone steps below for an Apple phone. On Android, follow the general steps, then check the Pixel or Galaxy notes for device-specific options. You can use the built-in Weather app or another installed app that provides a widget.
iPhone

Touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen until the icons enter edit mode.

Tap Add Widget, then find and select Weather.

Choose a widget size or presentation and tap to add it. Drag it to the desired place, then finish editing the Home Screen.

To choose what place it shows, touch and hold the widget, tap Edit Weather (or Edit Stack), then choose My Location or search for or select a saved city.
Apple offers Weather widgets in different sizes and presentations, including on the Lock Screen. You can add more than one Weather widget to the Home Screen if you want to keep different locations visible. The exact controls can vary by iOS version. Apple’s iPhone Weather widget guide has the current instructions.
Android phones

Touch and hold the widget and drag it to the Home Screen. Follow any setup prompts to select a style or location.

Widget choices depend on the apps installed and the phone maker’s software. If you see resize handles after placing a widget, touch and hold it and drag a handle to change its size. Google notes that some Pixel widget instructions apply only to Android 14 or newer; other Android versions and manufacturers may use different labels. Google’s Pixel widget guide explains its Home Screen flow.
Which Android weather option should I use?
Pixel: At a Glance or a Weather widget
Pixel’s At a Glance can show daily weather. Google says it can also be added on most Android devices: touch and hold an empty Home Screen area, tap Widgets, scroll to Google, then drag At a Glance into place. The full At a Glance experience is available on Pixel devices running Android 12 and later. A separate weather widget may also be available from an installed app. Google’s At a Glance help page describes supported information and setup.

Samsung Galaxy: Samsung Weather
Samsung says most Galaxy devices have a Weather widget. Touch and hold an empty Home Screen spot, tap Widgets, select Weather, choose a style, tap Add, and choose the location. Galaxy screens and menu names can differ by model and software version. Samsung’s Galaxy Weather instructions show its setup flow.
How do I choose the location and size?
Location controls are usually available when you add the widget or by editing it after placement. On iPhone, edit Weather and select a saved city or search for another place; separate widgets can display separate locations. On Galaxy, choose a location during setup. Other Android weather apps may have their own widget settings, so check the widget’s menu or the app that supplies it.
Widget size affects how much information fits on screen. Choose a compact style if you mainly want a quick glance, or a larger one if the available design shows more forecast detail. On Pixel, resize only if the widget displays resize handles; the handles and available sizes depend on the widget.

What if the weather widget is missing?

Check the app and its name. Open the widget picker and look under Weather as well as the name of the app that supplies the forecast. Some widgets appear only after their app is installed. Samsung likewise advises downloading the corresponding app if its widget is absent. See Samsung’s widget guide.

Confirm the phone and software version. Widget availability and instructions differ by manufacturer and software. On Pixel, some steps require Android 14 or newer; Samsung notes that Galaxy menus vary by model and software version.

For Google app Discover weather, check sign-in and Discover. Google’s help page says to sign in to your Google Account and make sure Discover is turned on. This is a widget in the Google app’s Discover area, not the same as the Android Home Screen widget picker. Google also notes that Search settings are changing, so the instructions may not exactly match every current app experience. Google’s Discover widget help provides its guidance.

If labels do not match, consult your phone maker’s current help. Android manufacturers can change the widget menu and setup steps, and exact controls can change between software versions.
Built-in widget or another weather app?
The built-in Weather widget is the simplest place to start, and a third-party weather app is an option if it offers a widget compatible with your phone. Before installing one, check that its widget appears in your device’s picker and offers the location and amount of forecast detail you want. If you only need quick access to weather, a shortcut to the app may be enough; a widget is for seeing information directly on the Home Screen.
