Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Authentication weaknesses have been reported in MediaTek’s preloader security flow, but that does not mean a community tool can bypass SP Flash Tool authentication on every MediaTek phone. Whether a device is affected depends on its chipset, firmware and patch status; the available sources do not verify the current compatibility or exact operation of the utility described as “easy.”
What SP Flash Tool authentication bypass means
SP Flash Tool is used in device servicing and firmware workflows involving MediaTek hardware. Authentication checks in the preloader and related security flow are intended to prevent unauthorized operations or images. A weakness in one of those checks can change what an attacker with physical access may be able to do, but it does not establish that every device accepts the same workaround.
A secondary XDA forum result describes the utility associated with this topic as Python-based. That reference does not establish a reliable device list, current maintenance, or compatibility with a particular phone. Nor do the vulnerability bulletins below establish that any one of their flaws is the mechanism used by that utility.
Which MediaTek vulnerabilities are documented?
CVE-2022-20034: Preloader XFLASH certificate validation
MediaTek’s February 2022 Product Security Bulletin lists CVE-2022-20034 as improper authentication in Preloader XFLASH, caused by improper certificate validation. MediaTek classifies it as medium severity and says exploitation could enable local privilege escalation for an attacker with physical access. The bulletin lists Android 11.0 software and specified chipset families; it does not describe a universal weakness across all MediaTek devices.

CVE-2022-20060: preloader USB security-flow image authentication
MediaTek’s March 2022 Product Security Bulletin lists CVE-2022-20060 as a preloader USB security-flow issue caused by missing proper image authentication. The bulletin says exploitation could lead to local privilege escalation, requires physical access and user interaction, and lists Android 10.0, 11.0 and 12.0 for its specified chipsets.
A separate preloader ASN.1 parser finding
A Meta Red Team advisory describes a type-confusion issue in the MediaTek preloader ASN.1 parser that could let a malicious firmware image pass signature verification. It points to MediaTek’s May 2023 bulletin for affected platforms. This is a distinct finding, not evidence that the flaw is used by the utility discussed in connection with SP Flash Tool.

Does a bypass work on your MediaTek phone?
The public material cited here does not confirm current support for specific phone models or establish a dependable procedure. The vulnerability bulletins name affected chipset families and software versions, but a chipset match alone is not enough to determine whether a particular device remains vulnerable: the installed firmware and OEM security patches also matter.
- Identify the exact model and chipset. Similar-looking phones, regional variants and hardware revisions may use different configurations.
- Check the installed firmware build and patch status. A bulletin’s Android-version listing is not proof that every device running that version is vulnerable or unpatched.
- Look for maintainer documentation for the exact device. The secondary reference does not provide an authoritative compatibility list or establish ongoing maintenance.
- Use an OEM-supported bootloader-unlock or repair route when possible. Do not treat a security bypass as interchangeable with an approved unlock or service procedure.
What MediaTek’s disclosure does—and does not—show
MediaTek states in its February 2022 bulletin that “Device OEMs have been notified of all the issues and the corresponding security patches for at least two months before publication.” This describes vendor notification and disclosure timing. It does not prove that every OEM released a patch for every affected device, or that a user installed one.

The documented issues demonstrate that preloader authentication and image-validation weaknesses have existed on specified platforms. They do not establish that the title’s “easy” characterization applies broadly, that one utility supports all MediaTek devices, or that a particular phone is currently exploitable. Device-specific patch information and tool-maintainer support are necessary to make those judgments.
