To make text larger by default in Edge, go to Settings and more (…) > Settings > Appearance > Fonts > Font size and choose a size. For a quick change to the current page, use zoom instead; it enlarges or shrinks the whole page view.

Choose the right text-size control

Edge has several controls that can make text appear larger, but they affect different things. Use the default font setting for Edge-wide font changes, page zoom for the overall view of a page, and Immersive Reader for supported pages. Windows also has a system text-size setting that affects most text across the device.

Change Edge’s default font size

  1. In Microsoft Edge, select Settings and more (…) in the upper-right corner, then select Settings.
  2. Select Appearance.
  3. Under Fonts, open Font size and choose the size you want.
  4. To further adjust how text looks, use the font-size and font-style options on the same page.

This changes Edge’s default font setting. Microsoft documents this path in its guide to increasing default text size in Microsoft Edge.

Zoom in or out on the current page

For an immediate adjustment, select Settings and more (…) and choose Zoom in or Zoom out. Zoom affects the overall page view rather than changing Edge’s default font-size setting.

Microsoft documents these keyboard shortcuts, which change zoom in 25% increments:

  • Windows: Press Ctrl + + to zoom in, Ctrl + – to zoom out, or Ctrl + 0 to reset zoom.
  • Mac: Press Command + + to zoom in, Command + – to zoom out, or Command + 0 to reset zoom.
  • Windows mouse: Hold Ctrl and scroll the mouse wheel up or down to change zoom.

See Microsoft’s instructions for using zoom in Microsoft Edge for the documented controls.

Set a default zoom level or manage site zoom

  1. Select Settings and more (…), then Settings.
  2. Select Accessibility.
  3. Under Visibility, choose the desired Page zoom.
  4. To manage zoom for individual websites, open Zoom levels.

Microsoft’s current guide places Page zoom in Accessibility. If your Edge build uses different menu labels, search Settings for “page zoom” or look for the equivalent control. The documented path is in Microsoft’s Edge accessibility features guide.

Adjust text in Immersive Reader

Some webpages offer Enter Immersive Reader in the address bar. When it appears, select it and open Text preferences to change text size or page theme. Press F9 to enter or exit Immersive Reader. This reading view is available only on supported webpages, not everywhere. See Microsoft’s Immersive Reader guide.

Make text larger throughout Windows

If the goal is to enlarge text in other apps as well as Edge, use Windows’ system setting instead. Microsoft says this affects most text on the device.

  • Windows 11: Open Start > Settings > Accessibility > Text size, adjust the slider, then select Apply.
  • Windows 10: Open Start > Settings > Ease of access > Display > Make text bigger, adjust the slider, then select Apply.

If you cannot find the setting

Appearance options and labels can vary by Edge version, and Microsoft notes that visual changes may roll out gradually. Update Edge if possible, then search the Settings page for font size or page zoom to locate the current control.
