There is no dedicated keyboard shortcut for toggling hidden-file visibility in Microsoft’s published File Explorer shortcut list. In Windows 10, change the setting in File Explorer’s View options; in Windows 7, use Control Panel’s Folder Options. Windows + E opens File Explorer but does not reveal hidden files.
Show or hide hidden files in Windows 10
- Open File Explorer.
- Select View > Options > Change folder and search options.
- In Folder Options, select the View tab.
- Under Advanced settings, select Show hidden files, folders, and drives, then select OK.
To hide them again, return to the same setting and select Don’t show hidden files, folders, or drives. Some Windows 10 builds may also offer View > Show > Hidden items in File Explorer; the available interface can vary by build. See Microsoft’s File Explorer instructions.
Show or hide hidden files in Windows 7
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Appearance and Personalization > Folder Options.
- Select the View tab.
- Choose Show hidden files, folders, and drives, then select OK.
To hide them again, choose Don’t show hidden files, folders, and drives in Folder Options. Microsoft’s Windows 7 support video demonstrates the legacy Control Panel route.
Do Windows keyboard shortcuts toggle hidden files?
No dedicated hidden-file toggle appears in Microsoft’s published Windows keyboard shortcut list. Windows + E opens File Explorer, while Windows + D displays or hides the desktop; neither changes the hidden-file setting.
