What is KB5043178?
Microsoft announced the update for Windows Insiders in the Release Preview Channel running Windows 11, version 24H2. The build number was 26100.1876. This is a historical release announcement, not evidence of the update’s current servicing status or a recommendation to install it today. Microsoft’s September 23, 2024 release notes are the source for the changes below.
What changed in the gradual rollout?
Microsoft said gradual-rollout items “might not be available to all users because they will roll out gradually.” The post did not give rollout percentages, device eligibility rules, or a completion schedule. It also noted that mouse and power-mode changes were added to the post on September 24.
- Start menu: The account manager gained a Sign out option, and its ellipsis menu showed other users to make switching accounts easier.
- Taskbar Search: Users could share local files directly from files shown in taskbar search results.
- Delivery Optimization: Microsoft updated the settings page to match the Windows 11 design. The path is Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Delivery Optimization.
- HDR energy recommendation: On supported displays, a recommendation could suggest turning off HDR to conserve energy.
- Mouse settings (added September 24): Settings could turn off enhanced pointer precision and change the scroll direction.
- Power modes (added September 24): Users could set Power mode separately for plugged-in use and battery use under Settings > System > Power & battery.
- Lock screen: Media controls appeared near the lower center of the screen while media was playing.
- Low-battery prompt: A prompt asked users to plug in when the battery reached 20% if Energy Saver was set to “Always On.”
What did the normal-rollout section list?
- Rust OSS attributions: The update added open-source software attributions for Rust to credits.txt files.
- Input Method Editor memory leak: A memory leak might occur when closing a window if a combo box had input focus.
- Controller input in WebView2 apps: Some apps using WebView2 might fail to detect input from Xbox 360 and Bluetooth controllers.
- Screen-reader narration (added September 24): NVDA and other screen readers might not narrate all content in some apps when those apps ran with administrator privileges.
Does the announcement show whether your PC received these changes?
No. The gradual-rollout list describes features Microsoft planned to distribute over time, but the post does not establish whether a particular device received them. The announcement documents what Microsoft said about build 26100.1876 in September 2024; it does not establish whether that build remains supported, what later cumulative updates superseded it, or what a user should install now.
