Chinese phone makers did release handsets reported as iPhone X-inspired in 2017–2018, but the available evidence does not verify the 12 models in the original roundup or confirm that they were “way cheaper.” Two named examples are LEAGOO S9 and Boway’s The Notch. Their resemblance was largely visual; the reporting did not establish matching hardware, specific prices, or current availability.
What counted as an iPhone X lookalike?
Apple introduced iPhone X in 2017 with a 5.8-inch OLED display, A11 Bionic chip, and Face ID, according to its launch announcement and official specifications. Those features provide a reference point, not evidence that a visually similar phone shared the same display technology, processor, camera capabilities, or biometric security.

A December 2017 MacRumors report described two Chinese products as inspired by iPhone X. The reported similarities were outward design cues—especially a notch-like top cutout and vertically arranged rear cameras—not verified equivalence in function.
The two named phones the reporting verifies
| Phone | Reported visual details | What was not confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| LEAGOO S9 | Notch-like display cutout, slim bezels, rounded edges, vertically arranged rear cameras, physical buttons, and a rear fingerprint sensor. | Internal specifications and a specific price were unconfirmed in the MacRumors report. Current availability is not established. |
| Boway The Notch | A similar front design and vertical rear camera arrangement; images showed a rear fingerprint reader and, in some cases, thicker top and bottom bezels. | Internal specifications and a specific price were unconfirmed in the MacRumors report. Current availability is not established. |
These descriptions support calling the phones visual lookalikes. They do not establish that either had an OLED panel, Face ID equivalent, comparable camera performance, or performance close to iPhone X.

Can you verify all 12 phones in the original roundup?
No. A Siamphone search result from 2018 identifies a roundup of 12 Chinese iPhone X lookalikes, but the article’s full list was not available to verify. A separate TechPP search result from March 2018 names Ulefone and Oukitel in a five-phone MWC roundup, but that page also could not be opened. Those snippets are not enough to confirm a complete 12-model list or connect every named brand to the original roundup.
For that reason, this article does not fill the missing entries with guesses. The number 12 describes the Siamphone roundup’s stated scope, not a verified roster of 12 distinct phones.

Were the clones actually cheaper?
Apple announced a US starting price of $999 for iPhone X in 2017. That is a historical US launch price, not today’s market price. The contemporaneous MacRumors report did not confirm specific prices for LEAGOO S9 or Boway The Notch, so it cannot substantiate how much cheaper either phone was or support a savings percentage.
Even a confirmed lower sticker price would not by itself show equivalent value. The available reporting does not provide the specifications, testing, or purchase terms needed to compare performance, camera quality, security, warranty, or total cost.

- Inspected and guaranteed to have minimal cosmetic damage, which is not noticeable when the device is held at arm's length.
What a buyer should take from this history
- Design resemblance is not a specification: a notch, slim bezels, and vertical cameras describe appearance, not display quality or hardware capability.
- Price claims need a model and market: the verified $999 figure is Apple’s US launch price in 2017; clone prices were not confirmed in the cited contemporaneous report.
- Old reports do not establish stock today: no trustworthy current listing, seller, condition, or availability is verified here for either named phone.
The evidence supports a narrow historical conclusion: LEAGOO S9 and Boway The Notch were reported as iPhone X-inspired designs, while the complete 12-phone list, clone prices, and present-day availability remain unverified.
