Connect PS5 audio through HDMI: the console sends sound to a TV or compatible sound system, which can then route it to speakers. Ordinary Bluetooth speakers cannot pair directly with a PS5. The right wired setup depends on the ports and audio-routing features of your TV, soundbar, receiver, and speakers.
Which PS5 speaker connection should you use?

Connect an HDMI soundbar or AV receiver
PlayStation confirms that the PS5’s HDMI OUT port can connect to a TV or sound system: PlayStation PS5 HDMI guidance. Depending on your equipment, connect the console to the soundbar or receiver, or connect it to the TV and have the TV route sound onward. The correct arrangement depends on the ports and supported audio-routing features of those devices.
- Connect the PS5 HDMI OUT to the HDMI input specified by your TV, soundbar, or receiver manual.
- If routing through the TV, connect the TV’s supported audio output to the sound system as its manual directs.
- On the PS5, open Settings > Sound > Audio Output. Select the output device and HDMI device type that match your setup.
- If you select AV amplifier, set the channel count and speaker positions to match the connected system. These controls are available in the PS5 audio-output settings described by PlayStation’s audio-output guide.
Do not assume every TV and soundbar supports the same ARC/eARC or optical routing. Check both manuals before choosing a connection or buying a cable or adapter.
Connect wired powered speakers
For speakers with a cable input, the usual route is PS5 to TV over HDMI, then TV or receiver to speakers using an output the equipment supports. The PS5 support material identifies HDMI OUT and USB ports for console model groups, but does not document a general analog speaker output. A USB connection should not be assumed to work as a speaker output.

- Check the TV or receiver manual for an audio output compatible with your speakers.
- Check the speaker manual for the input it accepts and whether it needs a powered audio source.
- Connect the PS5 to the TV over HDMI, then connect the TV or receiver to the speakers using the compatible port and cable specified by those manuals.
- Select the matching audio output on the TV or receiver and choose the appropriate output device and HDMI device type on the PS5.
Port names and supported formats vary by model. Confirm compatibility before purchasing a converter; an adapter cannot guarantee that a device supports a particular audio format or routing method.
Can you connect Bluetooth speakers directly to a PS5?
No. Direct pairing of an ordinary Bluetooth speaker for PS5 audio is not supported. PlayStation’s Bluetooth-audio error guidance states, “Your Bluetooth audio device isn’t compatible with PlayStation®5 consoles.” See PlayStation’s Bluetooth audio error guidance.

Wireless speaker audio may be possible through a TV with compatible Bluetooth audio support or through a transmitter connected to an audio output. That is a separate route handled by the TV or transmitter, not native PS5 Bluetooth pairing. Compatibility, audio routing, and latency depend on the specific devices; check their manuals before relying on this setup.

Fix sound when the PS5 speakers are silent
- On the PS5, open Settings > Sound > Audio Output. Select the intended output device and verify the HDMI device type. If using an AV amplifier, check its channel and speaker-position settings. See PlayStation’s audio-output guide.
- Confirm that the TV or display is set to the HDMI input receiving the PS5.
- For troubleshooting, connect the PS5 directly to the display and temporarily remove other audio/video devices from the chain. PlayStation recommends this direct connection when diagnosing HDMI issues: PlayStation HDMI troubleshooting.
- Try a different HDMI cable and another HDMI input on the display.
- Check the TV, soundbar, or receiver manual for its input selection, audio-routing settings, and any firmware requirements.
