Pay in a store with Apple Pay

Look for a contactless payment symbol and check that the merchant accepts the card and payment network you plan to use.

Double-click the Home button. Your default card should appear. Authenticate with Touch ID or your passcode if prompted.

To pay with another card, select it and authenticate.

Hold the top of your iPhone near the contactless reader and wait for Done or a checkmark.
Apple’s instruction for Touch ID iPhones is: “If your iPhone has Touch ID, double-click the Home button.” Apple Support: Make purchases using Apple Pay.

Open Wallet or choose a card directly
To access your cards without using the shortcut, open the Wallet app and tap the card you want. This route makes your card choice explicit; double-clicking Home is quicker when the default card is the one you intend to use. Add a card before using Apple Pay

Open Wallet and tap Add Card.

Choose Debit or Credit Card and follow the on-screen instructions.

If requested, complete verification with your bank or card provider. It may involve a text message, security questions, or the issuer’s app.
If you can’t add the card, it may not be supported or may need approval from the issuer. Contact the bank or card provider to check card eligibility and verification status. Apple Support: Set up Apple Pay.

Use Apple Pay in apps and on websites
At a supported app or website checkout, choose Apple Pay, review the payment details, select a different payment method if needed, and authenticate with Touch ID or your passcode. Apple Pay is not available at every merchant or in every region, browser, or device combination. Apple Support: Make purchases using Apple Pay.

Open Wallet and select the card directly. A different contactless app set as the default can affect automatic launch behavior; Apple’s guidance for that situation also points users to Wallet to select a card. The side-button shortcut Apple describes for Face ID iPhones is not the instruction for this Touch ID iPhone SE. Apple Support: Use another contactless app.

You can also check the Wallet settings for the Double-Click Home Button option on Home-button iPhones. A settings change is not a guaranteed fix for every missing-card or failed-payment problem. If setup is the issue, ask the card issuer about support or verification.
What affects Apple Pay availability
Apple Pay requires a supported card and issuer, and the merchant must accept the card’s network and contactless payments. Availability varies by region and card.
