To stop pop-ups in Chrome, turn on its pop-up blocking setting for your device. If only one trusted website needs a pop-up, allow that site alone rather than changing the setting for every site. If interruptions continue, check notification permissions separately and look for signs of unwanted software.
How do I stop pop-ups in Chrome on a computer?
Chrome blocks pop-ups by default. To check or change the setting, open Chrome and go to More (three dots) → Settings → Privacy and security → Site Settings → Pop-ups and redirects. Choose the default behavior you want.
To block a site that you previously allowed, find it under Allowed to send pop-ups and use redirects, open its More menu, and select Block. You can also select Add in the not-allowed section to add a site. Google documents the pattern [*.]example.com for covering a domain and its subdomains. Google’s computer instructions explain these controls.
How do I block pop-ups on Android?
In Chrome, tap More (three dots) → Settings → Site settings → Pop-ups and redirects, then turn off Pop-ups and redirects. Google’s Android instructions show the same setting and how to make an exception.

How do I block pop-ups on iPhone or iPad?
In Chrome, tap More (three dots) → Settings → Content settings → Block pop-ups, then turn on Block pop-ups. The label differs from the Android setting: on iPhone and iPad, the control is a blocking toggle. See Google’s iPhone and iPad instructions.
How do I allow pop-ups for one site?
Use an exception only when a trusted site needs a pop-up for something you want to do, such as a legitimate page or workflow. On a computer, when Chrome blocks a pop-up, select the blocked-pop-up indicator in the address bar and choose to always allow pop-ups from that site. You can also manage site permissions in the Pop-ups and redirects settings.

On Android and iPhone or iPad, visit the site. When Chrome shows its blocked-pop-up notice, tap Always show. This creates a site-specific exception; it does not require you to allow pop-ups everywhere.
Why am I still getting pop-ups after blocking them?
The interruption may be a notification
Website notifications are separate from pop-up windows, so blocking pop-ups will not necessarily stop notification messages. On a computer, review Settings → Privacy and security → Site Settings → Notifications and block notifications from a site you do not want to hear from. Google describes the separate controls in its notification help.

Check for signs of unwanted software
Persistent pop-up ads or tabs that will not go away, a changed homepage or search engine, recurring unwanted extensions or toolbars, redirects to unfamiliar pages or ads, and virus or infection alerts can indicate unwanted software or malware. These symptoms call for investigating the device; switching the pop-up setting alone is not a malware remedy. Google lists these warning signs in its guide to removing unwanted ads, pop-ups, and malware.
Do not trust alarming download prompts
If a pop-up urges you to update or download a program and seems suspicious, do not click it. Go to the program’s official website instead.

A work or school device may be managed
On a managed Chrome device, you may not be able to change the computer setting because an administrator controls it. Contact your work or school administrator if the setting is unavailable.

Google’s iPhone and iPad guidance recommends turning on Airplane Mode, quitting Chrome, and closing the tab containing the unresponsive pop-up or dialog. This is a recovery step for a stuck page, not a replacement for the pop-up setting.
