To connect a Bitcoin miner to a pool, enter the pool’s current Stratum server address and port, then its required worker or account name and password in the miner’s pool settings. Those values are pool-specific. For Stratum V2, confirm that both the pool endpoint and your miner’s firmware support V2; its connection begins with a protocol handshake rather than assuming V1-style fields are sufficient.
Before you configure the miner
Choose a pool and consult its current Bitcoin connection instructions. Copy the endpoint and credentials from that provider rather than reusing an address, port, or naming convention from another pool. Binance and F2Pool, for example, publish provider-specific setup information and examples: Binance’s Bitcoin mining setup guide and F2Pool’s miner setup guide.
Also check which Stratum version the pool endpoint expects and whether your miner’s firmware implements it. The available documentation does not establish universal V2 support across pools or hardware, and a V1 endpoint or credential format should not be presumed to work with V2.
Connect using the pool’s Stratum V1 settings
- Connect the miner to your network. The device needs local network access before it can reach a pool. Ethernet is one option, not a universal requirement; use a network connection supported by your miner.
- Open the miner’s pool configuration. Use the device’s own web interface or configuration utility. The exact menu labels and path depend on the model and firmware.
- Enter the pool URL and port. Copy the Stratum endpoint exactly as the pool currently publishes it. Do not substitute a port from another provider or infer one from an example.
- Enter the worker or account identity. Follow the pool’s prescribed format, including any required account name, separator, or worker name. Binance’s guide describes configuring a mining account and worker name; F2Pool gives its own example, illustrating why one pool’s syntax should not be generalized to another.
- Enter the password convention. Use the password value or convention specified by that pool. Do not assume a password accepted by one provider will apply to another.
- Save or apply the settings. Use the controls provided by the miner and wait for it to reconnect or report its resulting state.
How to verify the connection
Check both the miner’s status page and the pool’s account or worker dashboard. Look for a connected or online state and evidence that the miner is submitting work, such as accepted shares if the interface reports them. The exact labels, dashboard layout, and any delay before a worker appears vary by device and pool; there is no single confirmation path established for all firmware.

If the miner appears online but no worker appears in the dashboard, verify that the configured identity belongs to the account you are viewing and follow that pool’s dashboard guidance. Do not assume a universal wait time or status label.
What is different about Stratum V2?
Stratum V2 uses an explicit connection negotiation. The client sends a SetupConnection message as its first message on a newly opened connection, then considers the server’s response and negotiated features before proceeding with channel setup. The protocol overview states that this must be the first client message: Stratum V2 Protocol Overview, §3.6.1. A V2 setup error therefore calls for checking the client and server’s supported versions, required flags, and the server’s error response—not merely changing a V1-style username field.

The V2 Mining Protocol includes a user-identity field, an opaque identifier the pool can use to identify or authenticate the client. Pool operators may set their own identity requirements. See the Stratum V2 Mining Protocol and follow the selected pool’s instructions for the field.
Some V2 security implementations use a pool authority public key. When that mechanism is in use, obtain the key through a trusted channel published or specified by the pool, and follow the miner’s implementation instructions. Do not paste in an unrelated key or treat an unverified key as the pool’s identity. The security specification describes this authority-key mechanism: Stratum V2 Noise Handshake.

Troubleshoot common connection problems
Connection refused or timed out
- Recheck the hostname and port against the pool’s current instructions, including spelling and punctuation.
- Confirm the miner has network access and that the pool is operating.
- Verify that the selected endpoint expects the protocol version configured on the miner.
The cited setup materials do not establish one universal port or firewall rule, so use the pool’s documentation and your network’s configuration rather than guessing.

Worker or credentials rejected
- Compare the worker/account string character by character with the provider’s required format.
- Check the password field and any pool-specific convention.
- Confirm you are using instructions for the selected pool and the correct account.
Stratum V2 setup error or key warning
- Check the negotiated protocol version, server error response, and required flags against compatible client and pool documentation.
- If pool identity verification is configured, obtain the authority key through the pool’s trusted channel and compare it with the value configured in the miner.
Miner is online, but no worker appears
- Confirm the miner reports that it is submitting work, not merely connected to the local network.
- Check the account and worker identity configured on the miner against the pool dashboard account.
- Use the provider’s dashboard guidance; worker names, status labels, and update timing are provider-specific.
