Align a replacement with the oval connector and push until it clicks, then tug gently to check that it is secure. First confirm the replacement is made for your AirPods Pro generation: Apple says the tips are not interchangeable between models.
Remove and replace an AirPods Pro ear tip safely
- Hold one AirPod Pro firmly in one hand.
- Grip the ear tip close to where it meets the AirPod.
- Pull the tip straight out with steady pressure. If it slips, use a clean, lint-free cloth for a better grip. You can also gently roll the soft rubber edge inside out to hold it more easily.
- Line up the replacement tip with the AirPod’s oval-shaped connector.
- Push the tip onto the connector from its base until it clicks.
- Gently tug the tip to confirm it is attached securely.
Do not pry at the connector with a tool. Apple’s instructions for changing AirPods Pro ear tips rely on pulling the tip off and pressing the replacement into place.
Check your AirPods Pro generation before swapping tips
AirPods Pro generations use different tip sets, and Apple says their tips are not interchangeable. The size is etched inside the tip near its base; gently unroll the edge to see it.

Use tips supplied for your exact model. When buying replacements, check that the listing names your AirPods Pro generation; do not assume a generic earbud tip will fit. Apple lists replacement sets through the Apple Online Store, Apple Store locations, and authorized retailers. A targeted search such as “AirPods Pro 2 replacement ear tips” can help, but verify the product’s model compatibility before ordering. Choose a size that seals comfortably
A suitable tip should feel comfortable and secure while making a good seal with the ear canal. Apple’s guidance is that “Your ear tips should make a good seal with your ear canal.” If the AirPod feels loose or the seal seems weak, adjust its position or try a larger size. If it feels too large or uncomfortable, try a smaller one. Your left and right ears may need different sizes.
Wear the AirPods during ordinary activity and notice whether they stay in place without uncomfortable pressure. For AirPods Pro 1 and 2, Apple provides the Ear Tip Fit Test. For AirPods Pro 3, the feature is called Acoustic Seal Test, and Apple says it requires iOS or iPadOS 26 or later.

Run the test for your model
- Connect the AirPods to an iPhone or iPad.
- Open Settings and select the AirPods information.
- Choose Ear Tip Fit Test for AirPods Pro 1 or 2, or Acoustic Seal Test for AirPods Pro 3.
- If the test recommends an adjustment, reposition the AirPods and test again before changing tip size.
Follow Apple’s instructions for choosing AirPods Pro ear tips for device and model-specific details. With AirPods Pro 3, the size that provides the best acoustic seal may differ from the size that gives the best heart-rate accuracy because the sensor also needs skin contact.

Remove the silicone tips before cleaning. Rinse them with water, wipe them with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth, and let them dry completely before attaching them again. Apple advises against using soap or household cleaners on the tips. When reinstalling, align each tip with the oval connector and press until it clicks. Follow Apple’s AirPods cleaning instructions.
