In the mobile app, go to Devices > [your Fire TV] > Add collections; on the web, use Personalize Devices > [your Fire TV] > Add collections. The photos are managed through Amazon Photos rather than uploaded directly from the TV.
Set up personal photos from the Amazon Photos app
- Open the Amazon Photos app and sign in to the Amazon account you use with your Fire TV.
- Select Devices, then choose your Fire TV.
- Select Add collections.
- Choose the photos or albums you want displayed.
Amazon lists Fire TV as a supported photo-display device. The exact home-screen settings labels can differ by Fire TV model and software layout, so use Amazon Photos to choose the content rather than looking for a universal upload control on the television. Set up photos from the Amazon Photos website
- Sign in to Amazon Photos on the web.
- Select Personalize Devices.
- Choose your Fire TV.
- Select Add collections, then choose the photos or albums to display.
The mobile app and website provide the same basic choice of photos and albums; use whichever is more convenient for selecting your library.
Change or remove photos from the screensaver
To manage the selection later, open Amazon Photos and select your Fire TV under Devices. Select Add collections to add content or Edit to deselect collections. On the web, open Personalize Devices, choose the Fire TV, then select Add more collections or Edit. Amazon’s instructions for editing displayed photos

Removing a collection from the Fire TV stops it from appearing on that device; it does not delete the photos from your Amazon Photos library.
Use photos shared by family members
Amazon says shared photo groups can be selected as a Fire TV screensaver. A shared group may include photos, videos, and albums, making it a way for multiple family members to contribute. Amazon Photos feature guide

Amazon’s Photos support page, accessed 2026, says all Amazon customers receive 5 GB of storage for photos and videos. It says Prime members and Alexa+ standalone subscribers receive unlimited full-resolution photo storage plus 5 GB for videos and other files in select countries. Videos count toward storage limits. Check the feature page for current eligibility and country details.
If Photo Display is missing or unavailable
- Check Kids Mode: Amazon says Photo Display is not available when the device is in Kids Mode. Amazon Fire TV photo-display help
- Confirm device support: Amazon’s steps apply to supported Fire TV devices; the availability and wording of settings can vary by model and software.
- Choose the photos in Amazon Photos: Amazon’s documented setup uses the mobile app or website, not a universal direct-upload flow from Fire TV.
Personalized screensaver versus Ambient Experience
Fire TV’s default screensaver can display your Amazon Photos selection. Ambient Experience is a separate Alexa-powered mode that can show curated art or personal Amazon Photos. It is not available on every Fire TV, and it may replace the default screensaver experience after screensaver advertisements. Amazon Ambient Experience help

Check whether your Fire TV supports Ambient Experience
On the TV, open Settings > Display & Sounds and look for Ambient Experience. If that option is absent, Amazon says the feature is unavailable on that device.
Start Ambient Experience
On supported devices, Amazon describes several ways to launch it: select an Ambient tile using the Alexa Voice shortcut panel or Quick Settings, say “Go to Ambient Experience,” start it with a routine, or use the Fire TV menu on devices with the New Fire TV Experience. Which controls appear depends on the device and software.

Understand idle timing and timeout
Amazon documents a default start after five minutes of inactivity when no duration has been set, followed by a timeout after a few minutes without motion detection. The timeout control is identified as available only on Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Generation). Since these controls depend on model and software, check the Ambient Experience settings on your own Fire TV instead of assuming the same timing applies to every device.
