The amonet project describes a MediaTek BootROM exploit and a LittleKernel bootloader exploit for this device. That does not establish compatibility with every Fire OS build or hardware revision, so verify your tablet and its current build against the latest device-specific instructions before proceeding.
First, confirm that your tablet is the 2018 model
“Fire HD 8” is a product name used across multiple generations. The documented target is the Fire HD 8 (2018), 8th generation, model KFKAWI, also identified by the project name karnak. Amazon’s device identification page lists KFKAWI for this generation and associates it with Fire OS 7 / Android 9. Amazon explains that a Fire tablet’s generation corresponds to its release year.
Check the model on the tablet rather than relying on its appearance or name. Amazon’s guidance is to look under Settings > Device Options or About Fire Tablet. If the model is not KFKAWI, do not use instructions for this target just because your tablet is also called a Fire HD 8.

What the documented exploit route does—and does not—show
The community amonet project names the 2018 Fire HD 8 (8th gen / karnak / KFKAWI) as a target and describes an exploit chain involving MediaTek BootROM and LittleKernel bootloader components. It links to XDA instructions for installation. This is community-documented, not an Amazon-supported bootloader-unlock method.
These terms describe different outcomes. Bootloader unlocking concerns the software that controls what can boot on the tablet. Root access means obtaining elevated privileges within the operating system. Installing a custom ROM is a separate step involving replacement system software. The project’s description identifies exploit components; consult its linked, current instructions for the procedure and what it enables.

The existence of the exploit chain is not a guarantee that your particular tablet can use it. The reviewed project material does not establish a compatible-build list covering every Fire OS release, hardware revision, or manufacturing variant.
Does it work with your Fire OS version?
Check the installed software build on your tablet, then compare it with the compatibility information in the current device-specific XDA instructions linked from amonet. Do not assume compatibility from the model number alone.

Amazon’s software listing for the Fire HD 8 8th Generation includes a package named Fire_HD8_8th_Gen-7.3.3.1-20250617. The sources cited here do not confirm whether that build—or every earlier build—works with the exploit. If the current instructions do not clearly cover your exact build and hardware revision, treat compatibility as unconfirmed rather than experimenting with a procedure meant for another version.

Before you follow any instructions
- Confirm the model is KFKAWI and the generation is 8th (2018).
- Record the installed Fire OS build and hardware revision, if the instructions ask for it.
- Read the complete, current instructions linked from the amonet project and verify that they explicitly cover your device details.
- Do not treat a bootloader exploit as a one-click root setting, or assume it also installs a custom ROM.
- Do not proceed on the assumption of a guaranteed success or recovery path: the cited project material does not supply a universal success rate or verified recovery procedure.
The documentation cited here does not establish a tested step-by-step process for every supported configuration. It also does not establish a warranty outcome. Check the applicable Amazon terms and the current device-specific instructions before making changes.
