Download Notepad++ from the official Notepad++ downloads page, then choose the Windows package that matches your device’s architecture. For a conventional setup, use the installer; choose a portable package only if you specifically want to extract and run that package without the standard installation flow.
1. Open the official Notepad++ download page
Go to the Notepad++ downloads page and select the current release listed there. Release numbers and filenames change, so use the page’s current Windows options rather than relying on a version number or download name from an older guide.
2. Choose the package for your Windows device
Check your device’s system type before choosing a download. Notepad++ release discussions distinguish x64 and ARM64 packages; Windows 11 does not mean every PC has the same processor architecture. To check in Windows 11, open Settings > System > About and look under Device specifications for System type. Then select the corresponding package if that option is listed on the current downloads page.
Installer or portable package?

3. Download and install Notepad++
- On the official downloads page, open the current release and choose the installer that matches your device’s architecture.
- When the download finishes, open the downloaded installer. If Windows displays a security prompt, verify that you obtained the file from the official Notepad++ site before deciding whether to proceed.
- Follow the installer’s on-screen prompts. Review each screen and select the options that suit you; do not assume that a specific optional setting or dialog label will be present in every version.
- When setup finishes, launch Notepad++ from Windows.
4. If Windows says the app can’t run on your PC
An architecture mismatch is one possible cause, not a definitive diagnosis. A community support discussion describes this issue and recommends checking the package choice; it is not an official Windows compatibility statement. Recheck the System type in Settings > System > About and compare it with the package you downloaded. If the selection does not match, return to the official downloads page and download the appropriate package for your device.

- Confirm that the download came from the official Notepad++ site.
- Check whether you selected the package for your device’s architecture, such as x64 or ARM64 when those choices are offered.
- If the file may be incomplete or the problem persists, download it again from the official page and retry.
