GitHub Universe 2025 was scheduled for October 28–29 at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco. The dates have passed, so this is a look back at what GitHub announced for the event—not a current registration or attendance guide. Its preview promised sessions on AI-powered development, security, and automation, plus hands-on demos and community spaces for developers, maintainers, engineering leaders, security professionals, and founders.
What GitHub announced for Universe 2025
In its May 30, 2025 preview, GitHub framed Universe as a conference for people building, maintaining, securing, and leading software teams. The program was organized around three themes: AI-powered development, security, and automation and scale. GitHub said sessions would range from introductory to advanced, with technical talks, interactive demonstrations, and real-world examples.
The preview described a planned mix of scheduled learning and informal exchange. It promoted networking, a Makerspace, an expanded Open Source Zone, and a Career Corner. These were announced offerings; the preview alone does not establish which activities ultimately took place or what participants experienced.
Who the event was intended for
GitHub positioned the event for several overlapping audiences:
#1 Best Overall
- Developers and maintainers looking for technical sessions and examples related to their work.
- Engineering leaders and founders interested in development practices, automation, and scaling teams.
- Security professionals focused on security topics and GitHub Advanced Security.
- People interested in open source and careers whom the planned Open Source Zone and Career Corner might serve.
The preview did not establish that every attendee would find sessions at a particular level or that every announced space was available throughout the event.
Planned experiences beyond the talks
GitHub’s preview emphasized interaction as well as presentations. It described product demonstrations and community areas intended to create opportunities for hands-on exploration and conversation. The Makerspace and Open Source Zone were presented as places to engage with projects and creators, while the Career Corner offered a career-oriented component.

GitHub included attendee testimonials in its preview to illustrate the social appeal it was promoting. Sumeet Shetty, Head of Tools India at SAP, said, “Universe instantly gives you the chance to connect with some of the most clued-in people on the planet in the world of software engineering.” Zach Latta, Founder and Executive Director of Hack Club, described meeting an open-source creator and said, “Universe feels like a giant hackathon.” These are promotional testimonials, not independent measures of attendee experience or event outcomes.
Schedule announcement and notable archived launch
GitHub announced on September 10, 2025 that the schedule had launched, inviting attendees to build an agenda and sign up for one-on-one mentoring. That announcement is historical; its agenda-building and mentoring signups are not current opportunities.

GitHub’s Universe archive lists Agent HQ as introduced at Universe 2025 on October 28, 2025. This supports identifying it as an announcement associated with the event, but does not by itself establish broader event outcomes.
What passes and certification included in the 2025 preview
The May preview advertised a $799 Super Early Bird in-person pass through July 8, 2025, describing it as $700 off, and mentioned team discounts. It also said virtual passes provided free access to livestreamed keynotes and on-demand sessions. These were expired 2025 offers, not current prices or benefits.
Rank #4
GitHub said general admission included one certification exam. The preview named GitHub Copilot and GitHub Advanced Security among the certification options and said in-person attendees could take exams on October 30, the day after the announced conference dates. Those details describe the 2025 offer only.

The official preview and schedule announcement establish what GitHub planned and that it later published a schedule. They do not independently confirm final attendance, which advertised activities occurred, or participant outcomes. The archive’s entry for Agent HQ provides a specific record of an introduction at the event, but it is not evidence of attendance or impact.
