1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo find an application’s deployment type, assignment, target collection, purpose, and collection type in the Configuration Manager site database, use Microsoft’s documented query pattern below. Replace Application Name with the application’s display name, then validate the results against your site’s Configuration Manager version and database.
Query application deployment details
This query follows Microsoft’s troubleshooting example. It retrieves the application and deployment-type identifiers, assignment, collection, deployment purpose, and deployment technology. Microsoft presents it as an example pattern, not as a query verified for every site database.
SELECT APP.CI_ID AS [App CI ID],
APP.CI_UniqueID AS [App Unique ID],
APP.DisplayName AS [App Name],
DT.CI_UniqueID AS [DT Unique ID],
DT.ContentId AS [DT Content ID],
CIA.Assignment_UniqueID AS [Assignment ID],
CIA.CollectionID,
CIA.CollectionName,
CASE CIA.OfferTypeID
WHEN 0 THEN 'Required'
WHEN 2 THEN 'Available'
WHEN 3 THEN 'Simulate'
ELSE 'Unknown'
END AS [Deployment Purpose],
CASE C.CollectionType
WHEN 1 THEN 'User Collection'
WHEN 2 THEN 'Device Collection'
ELSE 'Unknown'
END AS [Collection Type],
DT.Technology,
DT.DisplayName AS [DT Name]
FROM fn_ListApplicationCIs(1033) AS APP
JOIN fn_ListDeploymentTypeCIs(1033) AS DT
ON DT.AppModelName = APP.ModelName
AND DT.IsLatest = 1
LEFT JOIN v_CIAssignmentToCI AS CIACI
ON CIACI.CI_ID = APP.CI_ID
LEFT JOIN v_CIAssignment AS CIA
ON CIACI.AssignmentID = CIA.AssignmentID
LEFT JOIN v_Collection AS C
ON C.CollectionID = CIA.CollectionID
WHERE APP.IsLatest = 1
AND APP.DisplayName = 'Application Name'; -- Replace with the application display name
The query uses the application and deployment-type functions with the locale parameter 1033, selects the latest application and deployment type, and left-joins assignment and collection data. Because assignment and collection data are left-joined, an application row may still appear when a matching assignment or collection record is absent.
Microsoft describes its sample as a query “similar to” this one for obtaining deployment troubleshooting information. See the Configuration Manager application deployment technical reference. Validate the functions, columns, localization behavior, and returned records in your site environment; availability and results can vary with Configuration Manager version and site data.

Choose the view that matches the question
The query above is a useful inventory of application deployment relationships. For other reporting needs, choose a view family based on whether you need assignment metadata, per-resource state, aggregate status, or classic package/program status.
| Question | View or approach | Useful details and join guidance |
|---|---|---|
| Which collection and application belong to an assignment? | v_ApplicationAssignment |
Microsoft documents assignment-level details, including application name, target collection, and creation time. Join using the documented AssignmentID and CollectionID relationships. |
| What state does a specific device or user report? | v_AppIntentAssetData |
Provides compliance information by assignment and application for each computer, and each user when the deployment targets a user. Named fields include ComplianceState, EnforcementState, applicability, and desired compliance state. |
| What are the overall deployment or deployment-type statistics? | v_AppDeploymentSummary or v_AppDTDeploymentSummary |
The application summary provides deployment statistics; the deployment-type summary provides deployment-type information and status. Microsoft documents joins using CI_ID, AssignmentID, and TargetCollectionID. |
| What is the status of a classic package or program advertisement? | v_ClientAdvertisementStatus or v_ClientOfferSummary |
These views are for package/program status, not application-model deployments. Their relationships use advertisement and resource identifiers. |
Microsoft’s documentation for application management views describes relationships among view families. Do not assume one universal join key: depending on the view pair, relevant identifiers can include assignment, collection, configuration item (CI), package, advertisement, or resource IDs.

Make state labels readable
Some status views expose numeric state IDs rather than descriptive labels. Microsoft recommends joining the applicable state view to v_StateNames using both StateType and StateID. A state ID can recur under different state types, so joining on StateID alone can associate a status with the wrong label. If a view pair requires an ID-only join, constrain the relevant StateType.
See Microsoft’s guidance on status and alert views for documented relationships.
Rank #3
Account for summary refresh delays
Aggregate deployment summaries are refreshed by a summarizer, so a recent client change may not appear immediately. Microsoft documents these default application deployment summarizer intervals, which sites can configure:
| Deployment modification age | Documented default interval |
|---|---|
| Within the last 30 days | 60 minutes |
| 31–90 days ago | 24 hours |
| More than 90 days ago | 7 days |
These are Microsoft’s documented defaults, not a guarantee of when every site’s summary will update. See the Configuration Manager status system documentation. When an aggregate result looks stale, check the site’s summarizer configuration and the client-reported state. Increasing detailed status reporting is not a casual remedy: Microsoft cautions that it can increase message volume and site processing load, while reducing reporting can make summaries less useful. See planning for the status system.
