FC2 Website may be worth trying if you want a small personal site or blog and value a free starting point. FC2 advertises 1GB of hosting space with no annoying ads, but that is a product claim—not a guarantee of current signup availability, terms, or long-term performance. Check the current offer before building on it, and keep your own backup.
What is FC2 Website?
FC2 is a portfolio of web services, not just a website host. Its English homepage lists Blog, Video, Live, Content Market, Free Website, Ranking, Counter, Clap, BBS, and an image-resizing tool. FC2 describes Blog as offering templates, Video as supporting uploads and mobile viewing, and Live as providing broadcasts and two-way video chat. Those are FC2’s descriptions of its services, not independent assessments of their quality. FC2’s service overview
This review focuses on FC2 Website, which is the relevant option if you want to publish a site. Do not confuse it with FC2WEB, a legacy service that FC2 says ended in 2025.
What FC2 Website offers
FC2’s Website feature page advertises free hosting with 1GB of space and no annoying ads. Its Japanese feature page distinguishes a free plan from a paid plan and describes hosting features tied to an FC2 account. The feature page is undated, so treat the stated capacity as FC2’s published claim, not as a confirmed limit for every current account or a promise that the offer remains available. Why it may be worth trying
- A free entry point: If the current offer suits your needs, you can test a basic personal site without committing to paid hosting.
- No ads, as advertised: FC2 says its Website hosting has no annoying ads. Check the current plan details rather than assuming this applies unchanged to every plan or account.
- Part of a broader service portfolio: FC2’s other services may be useful if you want a blog, live broadcasts, or video features alongside a website, but each has its own terms and access conditions.
These strengths make FC2 most plausible for a modest project whose owner can accept a free service’s limits. They do not establish that it is the best fit for a business-critical site, a large archive, or a project that needs guaranteed support or performance.
FC2WEB’s 2025 closure is not the same as FC2 Homepage ending
On April 19, 2025, FC2 announced that its legacy free homepage services, including FC2WEB, would end on June 30, 2025. FC2 said those old domains would become inaccessible and that it was consolidating operations into its maintained FC2 Homepage service. Users had to move their own data; FC2 said automatic migration was not possible. FC2’s April 19, 2025 closure notice

Limitations and responsibilities to consider
You are responsible for backups
FC2 Website’s terms say FC2 is not responsible for data loss caused by system failure or file corruption and require users to keep their own backups. The terms also prohibit using the service as a file store. Keep an independent copy of your site files and content rather than treating hosted storage as your only copy. FC2 Website terms

Support and usability may be a concern
In its August 8, 2025 review, TechRadar characterized FC2 as an entry-level free hosting option and reported confusing navigation and limited direct support. These are the publication’s dated assessments, not a guarantee of what every user will experience today. TechRadar’s FC2 review, August 8, 2025
What independent testing does—and does not—show
TechRadar reported testing FC2’s main website and observing uptime for one month. Those results describe that publication’s historical test and methodology; they are not a current uptime guarantee for FC2 hosting and should not be treated as a test reproduced here. The official product information cited above states FC2’s features, but does not provide a dated independent performance study.

FC2 Video and Live have separate conditions
FC2’s broader portfolio should not be treated as one service with one set of rules. FC2 Video’s terms describe free and premium versions, state that adult content exists, restrict access to people over 18, and assign users responsibility for following local laws when accessing the service outside the United States. These published terms are not a comprehensive independent assessment of safety, moderation, or legal suitability. FC2 Video terms
FC2 Live distinguishes live broadcasts from one-to-one broadcasts, and its page indicates that some programs require login or points. The page does not establish that every broadcast is free or that particular equipment is required. FC2 Live
If you plan to use Live’s broadcast or video-chat functions, a streaming webcam is one possible accessory; FC2’s service information does not make a webcam mandatory or identify a specific model.

- Ads and domains: Check whether ads are absent on your chosen plan and what domain options are available.
- Editing and migration: Consider how you will build the site and move it if your needs change.
- Support: Decide whether the available support channels are adequate for the importance of the site.
- Backups and content rules: Make sure you can meet your backup responsibilities and comply with the terms.
- Total cost: Compare the cost of the features you actually need, not just the free entry point.
