If you recently changed your Samsung tablet’s screen lock, you may be able to unlock it with the previous PIN, password, or pattern—without erasing data. If that recovery option is unavailable, a factory reset may restore access, but it deletes local data and may still require the Google account previously used on the tablet.
First, check whether you can use your previous screen lock
Samsung India says supported Galaxy devices running One UI 6.1 or later may show a “Forgot PIN/Password/Pattern” option after five or more failed unlock attempts. If you changed the screen lock within the previous 72 hours, the tablet may let you enter the previous PIN, password, or pattern. Samsung says this recovery can be used once per screen-lock type; availability and on-screen wording vary by model and software.
If you see the option, follow the prompts on the tablet and enter the previous lock method. The feature is not guaranteed to be available on every Samsung tablet. See Samsung India’s instructions for forgotten PINs, patterns, and passwords for its eligibility details.
Check local Samsung guidance before trying remote unlock
Do not assume SmartThings Find or Samsung Find can unlock your tablet. Samsung’s guidance differs by market: its UK page says remote unlocking is no longer possible, while its Hong Kong page describes an unlock function and notes that availability varies by market. Check the current Samsung support page for your country and exact model before relying on remote unlocking.

Samsung US describes remote functions such as locating, locking, and erasing eligible devices. Those functions require the tablet to be powered on, connected to a stable network, associated with a Samsung account, and have remote controls enabled. Remote erasure is not a way to recover access while preserving local files: it removes personal data. See Samsung US guidance on finding, locking, and erasing a device, and consult your local Samsung support page for availability.
Know what a factory reset will do before choosing it
A factory reset deletes personal data stored on the tablet. It does not recover that local data. Before proceeding, check whether your important files are backed up to a cloud service or another device. A reset may be the remaining way to regain access if previous-lock recovery is unavailable, but it is a destructive step.

Resetting also does not necessarily remove Google device protection. During setup, Android may ask for the Google account previously associated with the tablet. Make sure you know that account and can complete verification before you reset. Samsung advises owners who cannot remember the Google account password or complete verification to contact a Samsung service center.
Use model-specific reset instructions
The buttons, cable connection, and recovery-menu steps depend on the tablet model, software, and region. Samsung France’s instructions, for example, begin by connecting the tablet to a computer by USB and then use hardware buttons to open recovery mode and select “Wipe data/factory reset.” Samsung warns that button layouts vary, so those steps should not be treated as universal.

- Identify your exact tablet model. Use the model information on the device packaging, purchase records, or Samsung account if you cannot open the tablet’s settings.
- Open Samsung support for your country and model. Follow the current reset instructions for that model rather than guessing a button combination.
- Check the prerequisites. Confirm any computer or USB connection requirement in the instructions and ensure you have the Google account previously used on the tablet.
- Proceed only when ready to erase. Follow the official steps to select the factory-reset option. The process removes local data.
- Set up the tablet and complete account verification. If you cannot complete verification or the reset process, contact Samsung or an authorized service center.

Choose the route that fits your situation

When to contact Samsung
Contact Samsung support or an authorized service center if you cannot identify the right model-specific reset steps, the recovery process fails, or you cannot complete Google account verification after reset. Samsung’s regional support pages can help you find the appropriate service route; availability and requirements vary by location.
