The Galaxy S26 and iPhone 17 Pro are close in advertised screen size, but they differ in operating system, camera setup, weight and storage choices. Samsung announced the S26 in the US from $899.99 with 256GB; Apple’s specification page lists iPhone 17 Pro capacities but no price, so a fair price comparison requires checking current US prices at the same storage level.

Specifications are from Samsung’s US announcement and Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro specifications. The screen measurements use different conventions, so the matching 6.3-inch headline figures do not mean every aspect of the displays is identical.
How do their prices compare?
Samsung’s February 25, 2026 US launch announcement lists the Galaxy S26 from $899.99, with 256GB and 512GB configurations. The Associated Press reported the starting price as $899, a rounded figure; Samsung’s announcement is the more precise source for the launch price. Samsung said general availability for the S26 series began March 11, 2026. These are launch details, not a guarantee of today’s street price.
Apple’s specification page lists iPhone 17 Pro capacities of 256GB, 512GB and 1TB but does not give a current US price. Compare the current price of each phone at the same storage capacity, and separate any temporary carrier, trade-in or retailer promotion from the regular price. A $899.99 S26 launch price cannot establish which phone costs less now, particularly when the iPhone price and matching configuration price are not stated in the cited specifications.

Display size and physical feel
Both manufacturers describe a 6.3-inch display, but the measurement details differ: Samsung gives 6.3 inches across the full rectangle and 6.1 inches when accounting for rounded corners; Apple lists a 6.3-inch diagonal and a 6.27-inch standard rectangle. Those numbers establish a similar size class, not a direct comparison of brightness, color, refresh behavior or viewing experience.

Samsung lists the S26 at 167g for the cited Sub6 configuration, while Apple lists the iPhone 17 Pro at 206g. Samsung’s weight is tied to that regional/configuration qualifier; check the exact model sold in your market. Weight figures indicate the listed difference, but do not substitute for handling both phones if grip, balance or comfort matters.
Camera hardware: versatility is not the same as photo quality
Samsung lists three rear cameras on the S26: a 50MP wide camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. Apple publishes the iPhone 17 Pro camera specifications on its product support page. Megapixel counts and lens lists can describe hardware options, but they cannot determine which phone produces better photos or video in real use.

No matched-condition independent comparison of these two models’ camera output is established here. If camera quality is decisive, look for side-by-side samples taken in the same conditions—daylight, indoor light, night scenes, portrait shots, zoom and video—rather than treating separate manufacturer specifications as a winner. The same caution applies to battery life, sustained performance and display brightness: there is no matched-condition test result here that supports ranking the two phones on those measures.
Software and ecosystem
Samsung identifies Android 16 and One UI 8.5 for the Galaxy S26 and highlights Galaxy AI. Apple describes Apple Intelligence integration on iPhone 17 Pro. Those are distinct software environments, and the useful question is which one fits the services, apps and devices you already use—not whether one AI system is categorically better.

- Favor the S26 if you want Android and Samsung’s Galaxy features, or if your other devices and services already fit that environment.
- Favor the iPhone 17 Pro if you prefer iOS and Apple services or rely on Apple devices and workflows.
- Before switching platforms, check that your essential apps, accessories and account-based services work as you expect on the other system.
Water resistance: understand the lab ratings
Both phones carry an IP68 rating, but the manufacturers state different test conditions. Samsung says the S26 can withstand up to 1.5 meters of freshwater for up to 30 minutes; Apple specifies up to 6 meters for up to 30 minutes under IEC 60529. These are controlled-lab ratings, not recommendations to submerge either phone. Actual exposure and device condition can affect water resistance, so treat the ratings as limited protection rather than a waterproof guarantee.
