To create a folder in Samsung My Files, open the app, go to the storage location where you want the folder, tap the three-dot More options menu, choose Create folder or Create new folder, enter a name, and tap Create or OK. The exact wording can vary by Galaxy model, software, and app version.
Create a folder in My Files
- Open My Files. If you do not see it, search for the app in your app drawer or use your device’s app search. Samsung calls its file browser My Files in its support instructions (Samsung Gulf).
- Choose where the folder should go. For a folder saved on the phone, open Internal storage. Choose the destination before creating the folder; it will be created in the location you currently have open (Samsung Caribbean; Samsung UK).
- Open the menu. Tap More options, usually shown as three dots.
- Choose the folder command. Tap Create folder or Create new folder.
- Name and create it. Enter a name, then tap Create or, on some screens, OK. The new folder should appear in the location you selected.
Before creating it, check that the name is not already used in that location and that there is enough available storage. Menu names and screen layouts may differ by device, software, or app version (Samsung UK; Samsung Gulf).
Move or copy files into the folder
- In My Files, find the file or files you want to organize. Long-press a file, then select any additional files.
- Choose Move to relocate the selected items, or Copy to leave the originals where they are and create duplicates in the destination (Samsung US).
- Navigate to the folder you created and confirm the destination. Depending on the screen, the final action may be labeled Paste or Move here (Samsung Australia; Samsung Gulf).
You can also create a folder while selecting a destination for a file operation on some Galaxy devices; the available steps and labels depend on the model (Samsung US).
Use internal or external storage
You can create a folder in Internal storage without buying an SD card or other accessory. To use an SD card, the phone or tablet must support external storage; SD-card support varies by model (Samsung US). If the external-storage location is not available in My Files, check the specifications for your device.

Optional: Add the folder to the home screen
Samsung Australia documents a shortcut option for Australian-variant Galaxy devices: in My Files, long-press the folder, tap More, choose Add to Home screen, and tap Add (Samsung Australia). This is a regional, version-dependent option, so it may not appear on other devices.

A folder created in My Files organizes files in the storage location you selected. It is different from Secure Folder and from a folder used to group app icons on the home screen.
