What Spotify Lossless offers
Spotify describes Lossless as its highest music audio quality. It streams music in FLAC at up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz, but that specification describes the audio format—not a guarantee that every track, device, or listening setup will deliver that quality.
Spotify began rolling out Lossless to Premium listeners on September 10, 2025. In an update dated October 6, 2025, the company said it was available to Premium users in more than 50 markets. That is a dated rollout figure, not confirmation that the feature is available to every account today; access can depend on market, account, app, and playback device. Spotify’s launch announcement
How do I turn on Spotify Lossless?
- Open Spotify and select your profile menu.
- Choose Settings and privacy, then Media quality.
- Select Lossless for the relevant connection or use: Wi-Fi, cellular, or downloads.
- Repeat the selection on each device where you want to use Lossless. The setting does not automatically carry over to your other devices.
Spotify’s current support guide lists version 9.0.58 or later for the mobile app and 1.2.67 or later for the desktop app. If the Lossless option is missing, check the app version and whether the feature is available for your account and market. Spotify Support: Lossless audio quality

When using a third-party device through Spotify Connect, check that device’s settings while it is connected. Spotify also describes checking the file-quality card or Lossless indicator to confirm the playback status. Availability and controls can vary by device and market. Does Spotify Lossless work over Bluetooth?
Bluetooth is not a lossless path in Spotify’s recommended setup: Spotify says Bluetooth does not provide enough bandwidth to transmit lossless audio and compresses the signal before transmission. Choosing Lossless in the app therefore does not make Bluetooth playback lossless.

For the smoothest experience, Spotify recommends wired headphones or speakers using a non-Bluetooth connection. You do not need to buy new equipment if you already have a suitable wired setup, but connector compatibility varies. Spotify also notes that the connection type can affect the quality delivered.
Which devices support Spotify Lossless?
Spotify says Lossless is available across mobile, desktop, tablet, and many Spotify Connect devices. Support is not universal: some third-party and multi-room devices may not support Lossless in every market. The app and playback hardware both need to be compatible, and Spotify’s listed app versions are mobile 9.0.58 or later and desktop 1.2.67 or later. Check the device’s own settings when streaming through Spotify Connect.

What can prevent Lossless playback?
- Unsupported content: Spotify says Lossless is unavailable for music videos, podcasts, and audiobooks. The launch announcement describes support for nearly every song, not the entire music catalog.
- Connection limitations: Spotify recommends a steady connection of 1.5 to 2 Mbps for the best lossless listening experience. This is the company’s recommendation, not an independently verified minimum guarantee; stability and available bandwidth still matter.
- Playback path or hardware: Bluetooth compresses the signal, and some third-party or multi-room devices do not support Lossless.
- Settings or app version: Lossless must be selected separately on each device, and the app must meet Spotify’s stated version requirements.
If playback does not appear to be Lossless, verify the setting on the device you are using, check the file-quality card or indicator, and consider whether the content, network, and connection path support it.
Is Spotify Lossless included with Premium?
Yes. Spotify introduced Lossless as a feature for Premium listeners. Will you hear a difference?
Lossless provides higher technical fidelity, but it does not guarantee a dramatic or obvious change for every listener. The result depends on the source recording and playback setup, among other factors. Spotify’s support guidance cautions that higher fidelity does not necessarily translate into a noticeably different experience for everyone; the available sources do not establish a measured rate of audibility.
