Those eligible users could sign in with their Amazon account at Alexa.com and start chatting. Amazon later said Alexa+ became available to all US customers in February 2026, with access depending on Prime membership or subscription. You do not need to buy an Echo to use the browser experience.
What the Alexa.com release meant
Amazon’s January 2026 announcement described Alexa.com as a browser-based way to use Alexa+, alongside Alexa-enabled devices and the Alexa app. At that point, access was rolling out to Alexa+ Early Access customers. The website launch did not mean anyone could sign up for Alexa+ without an invitation or eligibility.
Amazon’s later US availability update, dated September 1, 2026, says the service is available to all US customers. That is a separate stage from the earlier website rollout. The update lists unlimited access at no additional charge for Prime members, limited text chat for non-Prime customers, and an unlimited standalone subscription. Check Amazon’s current regional page for the latest terms.
How to use Alexa.com
- Go to Alexa.com.
- Sign in with the Amazon account associated with your Alexa+ access.
- Type a question or task into the chat to begin.
Amazon’s January instructions applied to people with Alexa+ Early Access. Its later US update says Prime members can also start by asking an Alexa-enabled device, “Alexa, upgrade to Alexa+,” or by signing in at Alexa.com. An Echo device is not required for the browser experience.

What you can do in the browser
Amazon describes Alexa.com as a place to get quick answers, explore topics, create content, plan trips, and get homework help. It also describes task-focused use such as managing to-do lists and family calendars, controlling compatible smart-home devices, and making reservations.
Amazon says conversations can continue across Alexa surfaces. For example, its UK description says the Recent Chats feature lets Early Access customers continue in a browser conversations begun on an Echo device or in the Alexa app. Availability of particular features can vary by market and service.

- Upload documents, emails, or images for organization or calendar help.
- Ask Alexa+ to extract details for later recall.
- Adapt a recipe to dietary preferences and turn ingredients into a shopping list.
- Carry recommendations from Alexa.com to Fire TV.
- Use named integrations such as Philips Hue or Roborock for smart-home tasks, or OpenTable and Vagaro for reservations and appointments, where available.
These are capabilities Amazon describes; they are not a guarantee that every task or integration works in every account or region.

Do you need an Echo Show?
No. The browser launch instructions are to sign in at Alexa.com, and Amazon does not require an Echo purchase for that website experience. Echo Show devices are optional hardware for screen-based Alexa+ use. Amazon’s setup guidance identifies the Echo Show 8, 10, 15, and 21 as compatible with Voice ID and Visual ID personalization; this is not a requirement for Alexa.com access. Amazon’s January 2026 announcement says the company had sold more than 600 million Alexa-enabled devices worldwide. It also reports “twice the conversations, three times the purchases, five times the recipe requests” in describing changes it observed among customers. These are company-reported figures; the cited passage does not provide a detailed methodology, so they should not be read as independently verified measures of Alexa.com performance.
