Apple removed the music-streaming app Musi from the App Store on September 24, 2024, after YouTube complained that it violated YouTube’s terms and intellectual-property rights. Apple identified intellectual-property infringement as the removal basis. Musi sued Apple, but a federal district court dismissed the case with prejudice in March 2026. The court did not find that YouTube lied—or decide that YouTube’s allegations were true.

Why did Apple remove Musi?

Musi was an app that streamed publicly available content from YouTube. It had been available through Apple’s App Store for years before its removal. The court’s account of the dispute describes earlier YouTube complaints alleging that Musi accessed non-public interfaces, used YouTube commercially, and sold advertising over YouTube content. Those were complaints and allegations, not findings that each alleged practice occurred.

According to the district court’s March 2026 order, Apple told Musi on August 8, 2024, that it had received a July 29 complaint from YouTube alleging infringement and violations of YouTube’s Terms of Service. Apple encouraged Musi to contact YouTube or take steps to resolve the dispute. YouTube later told Apple that Musi had not contacted it and asked Apple to remove the app. Musi contacted YouTube on September 6 and reiterated that it believed the app complied with YouTube’s terms. Apple warned Musi on September 18 that the app could be removed if the dispute was not resolved soon. Apple removed it on September 24, citing intellectual-property infringement. The court’s March 16, 2026 order recounts this timeline.

What was Musi’s lawsuit about?

Musi sued Apple on October 2, 2024—not YouTube. It alleged that Apple breached the Developer Program License Agreement (DPLA), the contract governing its App Store relationship, and breached the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing. Musi asked the court for a preliminary injunction that would require Apple to keep listing the app.

On January 30, 2025, the court denied that request, finding Musi had not shown serious questions on the merits on the record then before it. That was an interim decision, not the final resolution of the lawsuit. The January 30, 2025 order discusses the preliminary-injunction request.

What did the court decide in March 2026?

The district court granted Apple’s motion to dismiss and dismissed Musi’s complaint with prejudice. It concluded that the DPLA gave Apple and developers mutual rights to end App Store distribution upon notice. The court rejected Musi’s argument that the implied covenant placed an additional limit on Apple’s termination right, and found that Musi had not plausibly alleged that Apple acted in bad faith.

The ruling resolved Musi’s claims against Apple on contract grounds. It did not decide that YouTube’s complaint was truthful or false, and it did not amount to a general finding that Musi violated YouTube’s terms. The March 2026 order is a district-court ruling; the available court materials do not establish whether an appeal or later post-judgment proceeding followed.

Did YouTube lie about Musi?

The phrase “YouTube lie” is a characterization in the lawsuit’s headline, not a conclusion reached by the court. The orders describe YouTube’s complaints, Musi’s disagreement with them, and Apple’s stated reason for removing the app. The court decided whether Musi had plausibly alleged claims against Apple under the DPLA and the implied covenant; it did not rule that YouTube lied.

Is Musi coming back to the App Store?

The court orders establish that Apple removed Musi in September 2024 and that Musi’s claims against Apple were dismissed in March 2026. They do not establish that Apple will restore the app or that it is scheduled to return. The lawsuit’s dismissal, by itself, does not announce a reinstatement.
