If those checks do not resolve it, follow ASUS’s model-specific reset, update, and diagnostic steps before arranging service. A charge reading that pauses near 95%, 80%, or 60% can be normal protection behavior—not proof of a failed battery.
1. Check the outlet, adapter, cable, and connections
For a laptop not charging when plugged in, start with the power path. Confirm the wall outlet works, then firmly seat the plug at the outlet, adapter, and laptop. Try another outlet. If your adapter has a detachable power cord, check both ends of that connection too.
Inspect the adapter, cord, and laptop connector for visible damage. ASUS recommends using the original adapter where possible: adapter output specifications can differ among ASUS models, so do not assume that another ASUS charger is a suitable substitute. If a component is damaged, stop using it and contact ASUS or an authorized service provider about replacement. 2. Confirm the charging method works with your exact model
USB-C does not necessarily mean USB-C charging. Check your laptop’s user manual or model support page to verify that the particular USB-C port accepts power; data or display support alone does not establish charging support. Also check the recommended adapter output and wattage for the laptop. Requirements vary by model.

If the taskbar shows a slow charger warning, the equipment may not supply enough wattage. ASUS says this can lead to reduced performance, inefficient charging, or battery drain while the laptop is in use. Use the supplied ASUS charger if available, or a certified charger that meets or exceeds the recommendation for your model. Do not assume that any higher-wattage adapter is suitable: verify the connector and charging protocol as well as the model’s requirements. ASUS specifically recommends the included adapter for the Zenbook A16 (UX3607OA), which uses a proprietary charging protocol; that model-specific note should not be generalized to other laptops.
3. Check whether a charge limit is causing the battery not to charge to full
A battery that stops short of 100% is not necessarily faulty. ASUS says charging may pause after the battery falls from 100% into roughly the 99%–95% range and resume once it drops below 95%; a reading around 94%–97% can also be normal protection behavior. ASUS describes this as “a normal condition for battery protection, not a problem for either the battery itself or the charging function.” See its charging troubleshooting guidance.

On supported models, battery-care settings can deliberately cap the maximum charge at 80% or 60%. In MyASUS, look for Battery Care Mode; on some older supported platform and software combinations, the setting is called Battery Health Charging. Feature names, locations, and availability vary by device and software version. Check ASUS’s Battery Health Charging introduction and battery and adapter guidance for model-specific details.
4. Perform the model-specific EC, RTC, or hard reset
If the connections and charging method check out, ASUS recommends an EC/RTC reset or hard reset as a next troubleshooting step. The procedure varies by model; do not apply a key sequence or reset duration from a different ASUS laptop. Find the instructions for your exact model in ASUS’s reset and charging troubleshooting guide and follow them as written.

5. Update BIOS, Windows, and drivers
Outdated system software can be part of a charging problem. ASUS recommends checking for BIOS, Windows, and driver updates. Use the support page for your exact laptop model and follow ASUS’s instructions for installing each update, especially for BIOS updates. Do not use a BIOS file intended for another model. ASUS lists resetting BIOS settings as a later troubleshooting step. The available menus and reset procedure depend on the model, so use the instructions linked from the ASUS charging troubleshooting guide rather than assuming a universal BIOS path. If you are unsure which option applies, contact ASUS support before changing settings.

7. Run a battery check in MyASUS, if available
On models that include the feature, open MyASUS and select System Diagnosis, then the battery-problem check. Follow the result shown by the app. ASUS notes that some devices do not display System Diagnosis; if yours does not, use the next applicable troubleshooting route in ASUS’s guide or contact support rather than treating the missing menu as a diagnosis. 8. Contact ASUS or an authorized service provider if the fault remains
If the steps above do not help—or the adapter, cable, charging port, or battery appears damaged—contact ASUS customer service or an authorized service provider. “Not charging” alone cannot identify whether the cause is the charger, battery, port, or another component, so do not buy a replacement battery before diagnosis. For a replacement AC adapter, match the exact model’s connector, required output, and charging protocol.
If the battery is swollen, stop using the laptop and arrange professional replacement. ASUS says swollen batteries should be replaced and disposed of properly, not put in household waste. Its Battery Information Center also says that an unused device should be stored powered off at 50% charge, disconnected from AC, and recharged to 50% every three months. Service availability and warranty coverage vary by location and product.
