There is no single best pair for everyone: the right earbuds depend on your phone, fit, listening habits, and how much noise cancellation you need. For a strong all-around starting point, the Sony WF-1000XM6 is named a top pick by both RTINGS and Crutchfield, but that is a pair of editorial judgments—not a universal, standardized ranking. Below are 15 options organized by what they do best, with the tradeoffs and buying checks that matter.

How to choose among these earbuds

Start with your main use, then check comfort and phone-specific features before comparing extras. Earbuds that seal well can improve passive isolation as well as comfort; try the included tip sizes and use an in-app fit check if one is available. For exercise, secure retention and durability may matter more than office-focused active noise cancellation (ANC). RTINGS likewise treats fit and durability as gym priorities, and ANC and battery life as office priorities.

  • Phone ecosystem: Some features and integrations are designed around a particular brand. WIRED recommends AirPods Pro 3 for iPhone users and Galaxy Buds4 Pro for Samsung phone and watch users.
  • Noise control: ANC reduces outside sound electronically; a good passive seal and a useful transparency mode also matter, particularly on a commute or a long trip.
  • Battery: Compare figures only when the listening conditions match. Published battery estimates may differ by ANC setting, volume, codec, and other conditions, so confirm current manufacturer specifications.
  • Fit and returns: Ear shape is personal. Check the seller’s return policy before buying, especially if you cannot try the earbuds first.

Best earbuds for 2026, by priority

These picks combine recommendations from separate review guides, not a single head-to-head test of all 15 models. Rankings and availability can change; the snapshot is US-leaning and reflects recommendations accessed October 8, 2026.

1. Sony WF-1000XM6 — best all-around starting point

RTINGS’ October 7, 2026 update names the WF-1000XM6 the best among the wireless earbuds it has tested, citing noise isolation and call performance. Crutchfield also calls it its best all-around pick. That makes it a defensible first model to investigate if you want a general-purpose pair, but it does not establish that it is the best fit, value, or sound for every buyer. Check the current price and whether the supplied tips seal comfortably before committing.

  • Water and dust resistant: From the beach to the bike trail, the IP54-certified earbuds and IPX2 charging case are water and dust resistant for all-day experiences

2. Apple AirPods Pro 3 — best for iPhone users

WIRED recommends AirPods Pro 3 for iOS users. It reports eight hours per charge and 24 hours with the case with ANC, plus an IP57 rating. These are WIRED-reported figures, not independent measurements in a common test with the other picks; verify current Apple specifications and your preferred fit before purchase.

3. Samsung Galaxy Buds4 Pro — best for Samsung phones and watches

WIRED recommends Galaxy Buds4 Pro for Samsung users. WIRED reports six hours per charge and 26 hours with the case with ANC, and an IP57 rating. Those publisher-reported figures should not be treated as a direct battery-life comparison with another model unless the test conditions match. Confirm current Samsung specifications and compatibility with your specific devices.

4. Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Generation) — best for noise cancellation

Crutchfield selects the second-generation Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds for cancellation, and Tom’s Guide also praises their noise cancelling. Tom’s Guide lists six hours of battery life in the earbuds; that figure is the publisher’s reported rating, not a guarantee for every listening setup. For flights or other long sessions, consider comfort, pressure sensation, passive fit, transparency mode, and battery alongside cancellation strength.

5. Beats Powerbeats Pro 2 — best for a retention-focused workout fit

Tom’s Guide’s fitness expert highlights the Powerbeats Pro 2 earhooks as an advantage for keeping the earbuds in place during runs and workouts. Hooks can be appealing if conventional buds tend to shift, but they do not guarantee a secure or comfortable fit for every ear. Tom’s Guide also notes the reviewer’s concerns about heart-rate accuracy, so do not choose this model as a substitute for a dedicated, verified heart-rate device.

6. Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 — Android ecosystem option

WIRED describes Pixel Buds Pro 2 as comfortable and reports an eight-hour battery life. That makes them worth considering for Android users who prioritize comfort, but the available recommendation does not establish a universal ranking across Android phones or current feature support. Check a current model-specific review and Google’s specifications for your device before buying.

7. Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 — sound-focused and Android pick

SoundGuys moved the MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 to its top Android-user pick in a September 11, 2026 update, while Crutchfield labels it its best-sounding option. Those are category recommendations from separate publishers, not a standardized comparison. Consider it if sound is your priority, and look for a current review that describes the tuning and equalizer options in enough detail for your preferences.

Soundcore by Anker P20i True Wireless Earbuds, with Big Bass, 30H Playtime
  • Powerful Bass: soundcore P20i true wireless earbuds have oversized 10mm drivers that deliver powerful sound with boosted bass so you can lose yourself in your favorite songs.
  • Personalized Listening Experience: Use the soundcore app to customize the controls and choose from 22 EQ presets. With "Find My Earbuds", a lost earbud can emit noise to help you locate it.
  • Long Playtime, Fast Charging: Get 10 hours of battery life on a single charge with a case that extends it to 30 hours. If P20i true wireless earbuds are low on power, a quick 10-minute charge will give you 2 hours of playtime.
  • Portable On-the-Go Design: soundcore P20i true wireless earbuds and the charging case are compact and lightweight with a lanyard attached. It's small enough to slip in your pocket, or clip on your bag or keys–so you never worry about space.
  • AI-Enhanced Clear Calls: 2 built-in mics and an AI algorithm work together to pick up your voice so that you never have to shout over the phone.

8. JBL Tour Pro 3 — feature-rich case

Crutchfield calls out the Tour Pro 3 for its functional case. That is a useful differentiator if case features matter to you, but a distinctive case alone does not establish better sound, ANC, or comfort. Check the current model-specific specifications and confirm that the case functions you want work with your phone.

9. JBL Endurance Race 2 — running category pick

Crutchfield lists the Endurance Race 2 as its running pick. Treat that label as a reason to investigate its workout fit and durability rather than a guarantee that it will stay secure in your ears. Before buying, check its current water and dust rating, controls, and return terms; those details are not established by the category recommendation alone.

10. Technics EAH-AZ100 — bass-oriented option

Crutchfield identifies the EAH-AZ100 as its bass pick, and SoundGuys includes it among notable mentions. This makes it a candidate for listeners who want a bass-forward option, but the recommendation does not provide a common sound test against the other models here. Check current reviews and EQ support if you prefer to adjust the tuning.

11. Anker Soundcore Space A40 — budget candidate

RTINGS’ update history names the Space A40 as its best budget pick as of April 15, 2026. A dated category pick is a useful shortlist clue, not confirmation that the model remains the best value or is still sold at an attractive price. Check the live recommendation, current local pricing, and the features you need before choosing it.

12. OnePlus Buds 4 — lower-mid-range ANC and fit candidate

RTINGS’ May 27, 2026 update calls the OnePlus Buds 4 its lower-mid-range pick for ANC and stable fit. That supports considering it when those priorities matter at a lower-mid-range price, but the recommendation does not supply a current price or prove that every buyer will get the same fit. Check the current listing and return policy.

13. EarFun Air Pro 4+ — codec-focused alternative

RTINGS lists the Air Pro 4+ as an alternative for listeners who prioritize codec choice over ANC strength. A codec can matter when your source device and listening setup support it, but it should not outrank comfort or a stable connection by default. Confirm that your phone supports the codec you want and check a current review for performance details.

14. Nothing Ear (3a) — notable mention

SoundGuys added the Nothing Ear (3a) as a notable mention in its September 11, 2026 update. A notable mention is a shortlist signal, not a category win or an across-the-board recommendation. Review the current model-specific coverage and check compatibility with your phone before deciding.

15. Creative Aurvana Ace 3 — budget sound-quality candidate

SoundGuys’ update history says the Aurvana Ace 3 replaced the Creative Aurvana Ace Mimi as its budget sound-quality pick. That supports evaluating it for sound at a lower price tier, but does not establish its current price, availability, or performance relative to every budget model. Check current listings and reviews before purchase.

What to verify before you buy

  1. Confirm the exact generation. Product names and recommendations can change; make sure the listing is for the model and generation discussed here.
  2. Check current availability and price in your region. The recommendations are US-leaning, and model availability, retailer offers, and prices vary and change.
  3. Match features to your phone. Verify ecosystem-specific functions, codec support, multipoint or device switching, and any app requirements against your own devices.
  4. Read the current specification sheet. Confirm battery conditions, water and dust resistance, and any feature you rely on. Do not compare battery numbers unless their test conditions align.
  5. Plan for fit. Try the included tips and fit check where available, and buy from a seller with a return policy that gives you a practical way to assess comfort.

Are expensive earbuds worth it?

They can be worth paying more for when the specific improvement matters to you—such as stronger cancellation for travel, phone-specific integration, or a fit that stays secure during exercise. A premium label alone does not prove better value for your ears or devices. Compare the category advantage you actually need, current price, fit, and return terms rather than treating any one publisher’s “best” label as a universal verdict.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
