If Microsoft Print to PDF disappeared or enabling it returns error 0x800F0922, first check your Windows 11 update status. Microsoft documented this issue for version 24H2 build 26100.4061 and later said it was fixed in KB5060829. The original feature-toggle steps below are historical troubleshooting, not a substitute for installing the supported update available to your device.

What caused the 0x800F0922 error?

In its May 13, 2025 release notes for KB5058411 (OS build 26100.4061), Microsoft described a Windows 11 24H2 issue in which Microsoft Print to PDF might no longer appear after the update. Trying to enable the optional feature could fail with 0x800F0922 while Windows attempted to install its printer driver.

This is a Windows software-feature and servicing problem, not evidence that you need to replace a physical printer. Microsoft’s notes identify the symptoms on the specified build; they do not establish that every Windows 11 24H2 computer is affected. Your installed build, update state, and device configuration matter.

Check for Microsoft’s fix before troubleshooting

Microsoft’s June 26, 2025 KB5060829 preview update notes say the Print to PDF issue was fixed. Open Windows Update, check for updates, and install the supported update offered for your device. Then check whether Microsoft Print to PDF is available and works before trying the older feature-toggle procedures.

For the earlier issue context, Microsoft’s May 27, 2025 KB5061977 notes repeat the known-issue description. That entry is scoped to enterprise customers and IT administrators and says KB5060829 fixed the problem. If you manage a work or school device, follow your organization’s update policy.

Try the documented feature controls if the printer is still missing

If Windows is up to date but the feature remains unavailable, Microsoft documented these feature controls for the 26100.4061 issue. Check after each method; do not assume that a successful-looking toggle proves the driver installed correctly.

Enable it in Windows Features

  1. Press Windows + R.
  2. Type optional features and press Enter to open the Windows Features dialog.
  3. Find Microsoft Print to PDF, select it, and confirm the change.
  4. When Windows finishes, try printing a document to Microsoft Print to PDF.

Microsoft lists this interface in the KB5058411 release notes. If enabling the option returns 0x800F0922, proceed to the update checks above rather than repeatedly retrying the same action.

Toggle the optional feature with administrator PowerShell

Microsoft also documented disabling and then enabling the optional feature in administrator PowerShell. The feature name is Printing-PrintToPDFServices-Features. Its KB5061977 notes warn that the final enable operation may still return 0x800F0922, so this is not a guaranteed repair.

Run PowerShell as an administrator and use the disable operation followed by the enable operation for that feature. If the enable step fails, stop repeating the toggle and confirm that Windows Update has installed the applicable fix; contact your organization’s IT administrator if update management is controlled by work or school.

What to avoid

The Microsoft notes cited here do not support manually copying driver-store files or editing the registry as approved fixes for this issue. Avoid those steps unless you have authoritative instructions specific to your device and understand the risks. The documented issue concerns Windows installing its built-in PDF printer driver, and Microsoft identified a servicing update as the fix.
