Nothing OS 4.0 is the Android 16-based update for eligible Nothing and CMF phones. Nothing’s current roadmap marks its rollout complete, but that does not mean every Nothing-branded device qualifies. If your phone is eligible and has not shown the update yet, check manually under Settings > System > System updates; releases can arrive in phases.
When did Nothing OS 4.0 come out?
Nothing began the stable public rollout with Phone (3), then expanded it to eligible Nothing and CMF devices. The general release announcement does not provide a verifiable calendar publication date, so a precise launch day cannot be established from that announcement. Nothing’s later rollout notice said Phone (3a) Lite would receive the update in January, completing the general rollout. The current roadmap now marks the rollout complete for eligible devices.
Nothing’s official notices describe the sequence rather than a single date on which all phones received the update. An eligible phone may therefore have received its update prompt later than another model. Nothing OS 4.0 | General Release · Nothing OS 4.0 | Rollout Update · Nothing OS Release Roadmap
Which phones are eligible?
Nothing’s rollout notices identify devices that received or were scheduled to receive OS 4.0, while its roadmap refers to eligible devices rather than every product under the Nothing brand. The notices do not establish support for Phone (1), so owners should not assume it is eligible.

How to check for the update
- Open Settings on your phone.
- Tap System, then System updates.
- Check for an available update and follow the on-screen installation prompts if one appears.
If nothing is offered, confirm that your model is eligible and check again later. A completed overall rollout does not guarantee every eligible handset receives a prompt at the same moment. Some supporting app experiences update separately through Google Play rather than as part of the OS installation.

Essential Apps and AI visibility
Essential Apps lets users describe a widget to AI, while an organized Widget Drawer keeps created or collected widgets together. OS 4.0 also adds AI status hints to indicate when a large language model is active and an AI usage dashboard. Nothing’s open-beta notice specifies that dashboard for Phone (3); the notices do not establish identical availability on every model. Nothing OS 4.0 | Open Beta

Phone (3)-exclusive Glyph additions
Nothing labels these features as Phone (3) exclusives in its release post: Glyph Mirror Selfie; configurable Vibrate or Silent behavior for Flip to Glyph; Flip to Glyph AOD behavior; Pocket Mode; and two time-themed Glyph Toys. These model-specific additions should not be taken as features available on all OS 4.0 phones. Nothing’s OS 4.0 release notes
