What’s new on iPhone 18 Pro?
Variable-aperture 48MP main camera
The headline camera change is a 48MP Fusion Main camera with a variable aperture and six laser-cut blades. Apple says the camera can adjust aperture automatically for lighting and depth of field, or users can choose from four aperture settings. The Camera app adds Pro controls for aperture, shutter speed, white balance, and a histogram. Apple also says a new sensor improves image quality and low-light photography. Apple’s launch announcement describes these features.
More photo and video tools
Photographic Styles add controls for texture and grain. For video recorded at up to 60 frames per second, Apple says Cinematic effects can be applied after recording. Time-lapse supports 4K and Dolby Vision HDR, while Audio Mix uses new algorithms for voice quality and music isolation.

Apple Reference Image is an optional capture mode that uses signed sensor data and Private Cloud Compute to create a reference image for comparison with an edited image. It is not a blanket guarantee that every image is authentic. At launch, capture was unavailable in China because of regulation and in the EU; Apple said users in those regions could still develop and view reference images with compatible software.
Smaller Dynamic Island
Apple says the Dynamic Island is smaller and can show up to three Live Activities at once.
A20 Pro and redesigned cooling
Both models use Apple’s A20 Pro, which Apple describes as built using 2-nanometer process technology. Apple claims 50% more memory bandwidth and up to 40% faster graphics than A19 Pro. A redesigned vapor chamber is said to enable up to 40% better sustained performance than the previous generation. These are Apple’s comparisons, not independent benchmark results.

A July 19, 2026 MacRumors roundup presented 12 rumored changes, not an Apple-confirmed feature list. The rumors included a smaller Dynamic Island, LTPO+ displays, variable aperture, A20 Pro, C2 modem, 5G via satellite, N2 chip, Dark Cherry color, simplified Camera Control, redesigned rear Ceramic Shield, a larger Pro Max battery, and a thicker Pro Max design. MacRumors’ July roundup is useful as a record of those pre-launch claims, not as a specification sheet.
Apple confirmed some of the broad ideas: a smaller Dynamic Island, variable aperture, A20 Pro, C2, and a longer battery rating for Pro Max. But it named N1 rather than N2 and announced black, silver, glacier, and burgundy finishes rather than the rumored Dark Cherry. Apple’s launch announcement does not establish the rumored LTPO+ panel, simplified Camera Control, rear Ceramic Shield redesign, thicker body, or satellite internet browsing as described in that roundup.

iPhone 18 Pro vs. Pro Max: how do they compare?
Apple’s published comparison figures cover battery playback estimates and U.S. starting prices at announcement. Battery values are Apple estimates for eSIM-only models, measured using preproduction units and specified charging hardware; they are not independent test results.
| Model | Apple’s video playback estimate | U.S. starting price at announcement |
|---|---|---|

| iPhone 18 Pro Max | Up to 45 hours, eSIM-only model; Apple estimate | $1,299 |
The Pro Max is the longer-lasting choice on Apple’s stated playback measure. Apple listed storage capacities of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB, and colors black, silver, glacier, and burgundy. Check Apple or local retailers for current prices, stock, and regional configurations; launch prices and launch promotions do not establish today’s offers.
How fast does iPhone 18 Pro charge?
Apple says iPhone 18 Pro can reach 50% charge in around 15 minutes with its stated wired setup, or around 30 minutes wirelessly. These are Apple’s estimates under its specified testing conditions, not a guarantee for every charger, temperature, or use pattern. Consult Apple’s technical specifications for the charging setup and full conditions.
