However, iOS 26 Public Beta 6 is a historical release: Apple’s update history lists later public versions, and its current documentation does not establish that Beta 6 is still available to install. Choose the public beta Apple currently offers instead; the exact options can change.
Before you install: Beta 6 is not the current public beta
Apple’s iOS 26 update history lists releases later than Public Beta 6. Apple’s current documentation does not say that the older Beta 6 build can still be selected, so you should not expect to install that specific build from Settings. If you want to try iOS 26 beta software, use the public beta option currently displayed on your iPhone.

A beta is pre-release software. Apple cautions users to back up before updating, and installing beta software can complicate a return to an earlier public iOS version. If you prefer a released version and a simpler restore path, wait for or install the public iOS release rather than a beta.
Check whether your iPhone is compatible
Apple lists iPhone 11 and later models, plus iPhone SE (2nd generation and later), as compatible with iOS 26. Your iPhone only shows updates compatible with its model, and Apple notes that an earlier update may need to be installed first. See Apple’s iOS 26 download and compatibility guidance for the current list.

Back up before installing the beta
Apple recommends backing up important information before updating. Make a backup before enrolling or installing, and keep a backup from before the beta if you might want to return to a public iOS version. A backup created while the iPhone is running beta software may not be compatible with an earlier iOS release.
Apple’s instructions for removing iOS or iPadOS beta software explain the restore implications. Returning to a public release can require erasing the iPhone and restoring it; a pre-beta backup may be needed to recover your data.

Install the public beta Apple currently offers
- Enroll your device. Visit Apple’s Beta Software Program and sign in with the Apple Account associated with your iPhone. Enroll the device in the program to access available beta software and subsequent updates.
- Open Beta Updates. On the iPhone, go to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates. Apple documents this path in its beta software installation guidance.
- Select the available public beta. Choose the public beta option currently shown. The labels and releases available depend on Apple’s current program; this menu is not a way to select Beta 6 if Apple no longer offers it.
- Return to Software Update and install. Follow the onscreen prompts to download and install the update. Keep the iPhone available while installation completes and follow any prompts on the device.
Apple does not specify a universal download size or installation duration for this beta path, so the time required can vary.
If the public beta does not appear
- Confirm that your iPhone model is on Apple’s iOS 26 compatibility list and install any earlier required update.
- Check that you enrolled with the Apple Account used on the iPhone.
- Return to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates and check which beta choices Apple currently offers.
- If you specifically want Beta 6, it may no longer be offered; Apple’s update history lists later public releases.
Do not use configuration profiles or unofficial download sites to try to obtain an older beta. Apple’s documented route is enrollment through its program and the Beta Updates setting.

How to stop beta updates or return to public iOS
Stop receiving future betas
On supported system versions, go to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates and select Off. This stops future beta updates; it does not remove the beta version already installed.
Return to a public release
Returning to the current public version may require erasing the iPhone and restoring it. A backup made while running beta software may not restore to an earlier iOS version, which is why keeping a pre-beta backup matters. Follow Apple’s beta removal and restore instructions before proceeding.
