You can use Xbox Remote Play on an ASUS ROG Ally to stream games installed on your own Xbox console, including Game Pass titles. First enable remote features on an Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One, and make sure it is turned on or in Sleep mode. ASUS confirms the capability and these prerequisites, but its published setup information does not verify the current Xbox app screens for connecting the console, so the steps below avoid guessing at menu names.
What you need before you start
- An Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One with remote features enabled.
- The console turned on or set to Sleep mode.
- An internet connection, a supported device, and games to play.
- An ASUS ROG Xbox Ally. ASUS describes it as a Windows 11 handheld with an Xbox full-screen experience and access to Xbox games and other PC game stores. ASUS’s ROG Xbox Ally product page describes Remote Play as streaming games installed on your Xbox console, including Game Pass titles, to the handheld.
ASUS does not state a minimum internet speed in the cited product and support information, so there is no verified bandwidth figure to give here.
Prepare the Xbox console
- On your Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One, enable its remote features. ASUS requires this for Remote Play, but the ASUS pages cited here do not provide the Xbox menu path for enabling it.
- Leave the console turned on or set it to Sleep mode when you want to connect. A console that is fully shut down does not meet ASUS’s stated requirement.
ASUS’s ROG Xbox Ally support page states that an Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One must have remote features enabled and be turned on or in Sleep mode.
Start Remote Play on the Ally
Open the Xbox experience on the Ally and look for the option to connect to or play from your console. The exact current Xbox app menu sequence for discovering or pairing a console is not confirmed by the ASUS setup information cited here, so a precise path or button name would be unreliable. App screens can change with updates; follow the labels shown in your installed Xbox app rather than relying on an unverified path.

ASUS confirms that the Ally runs Windows 11 and has an Xbox full-screen experience. Its general ROG Ally Series FAQ, updated June 3, 2026, says initial Windows setup can be navigated with touch or by using the joystick as a cursor, and notes support for launchers including Xbox Game Pass. That is general device guidance, not a Remote Play pairing walkthrough.
Remote Play versus Xbox Cloud Gaming
| What differs | Xbox Remote Play | Xbox Cloud Gaming |
|---|---|---|
| Where the game runs | On your Xbox console; Remote Play streams games installed there to the Ally. | In the cloud; ASUS describes this separately as cloud game streaming. |
| Xbox console needed | Yes. A supported Xbox console must have remote features enabled and be on or in Sleep mode. | No console requirement is stated in ASUS’s cloud-streaming description. |
| Catalog and plan conditions | Game Pass titles can be streamed if installed on your console; ASUS says catalog benefits vary by plan, region, and over time. | Cloud game availability and catalogs vary by region, device, and plan, according to ASUS. |
For details and caveats, see the ASUS product description and its support disclaimer. Remote Play is the relevant choice when you want to stream from your own console; it is not simply another name for Cloud Gaming.

It does not establish that a membership is required for every possible Remote Play use. Game Pass benefits and game catalogs can vary by plan, region, and over time, so check current plan terms for your location.
