Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsNeed to move files between your PC and phone fast? The easiest method depends on whether you have an Android phone or an iPhone, and whether you’re moving photos or other files. For Android, use Quick Share for nearby wireless transfers or a USB data cable for a direct copy. For iPhone, use Microsoft Photos to import photos and videos, or Apple Devices to move files into apps that support file sharing.
Choose a method for your phone and files
| Phone and task | Good place to start | What it transfers |
|---|---|---|
| Android, a few files nearby | Quick Share | Files and folders in either direction between Android and a compatible Windows PC |
| Android, a wired copy or larger batch | USB data cable | Files in either direction through the phone’s File Transfer mode |
| iPhone, photos or videos to PC | Microsoft Photos over USB | Selected photos and videos from the connected device |
| iPhone, files from PC into an app | Apple Devices | Files for apps that support file sharing—not a general view of all iPhone storage |
| Either platform, recent Android photos | Phone Link | Recent Android camera and screenshot-folder photos; not videos |
| Either platform, no cable or internet available | Bluetooth | Files, after pairing and acceptance on the receiving device |
These are workflow choices, not speed rankings: the official guidance cited here does not provide comparable transfer-speed measurements. Cloud storage can also bridge a PC and phone if you already have sync enabled.
Transfer files between Android and Windows
Use Quick Share for a nearby wireless transfer
Quick Share can send files both ways between Android and compatible Windows PCs. Google says Quick Share is built into Android 6 and newer. On Windows, Google lists 64-bit Windows 10 and newer, or Windows 11 and newer on ARM-based devices. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth must be enabled, and Google says the devices “should be close to each other, within 16 feet (5m).” Google’s Quick Share guidance has current installation and transfer details.
- On a non-Samsung PC, install Google’s Quick Share for Windows. Samsung PCs should use Samsung’s Quick Share app from Microsoft Store.
- Make sure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are enabled on both devices, and keep them nearby.
- On the sending device, select the files or folders, choose Share, then choose Quick Share and the recipient PC or phone.
- On the receiving device, accept the transfer if prompted. To send from the PC, open Quick Share there and select the Android device as the recipient.
Google says transfers are end-to-end encrypted and recipients confirm transfers. You can adjust device visibility in Quick Share if the other device does not appear.

Use a USB cable for a direct Android file copy
- Unlock the Android phone and connect it to the PC with a USB cable that supports data transfer.
- On the phone, tap the USB notification and select File Transfer.
- Use the file-transfer window on the PC to drag files between the phone and PC.
- Eject the phone from Windows before disconnecting it.
If the phone only charges and no files appear, check the cable and USB mode first. Google cautions: “Not all USB cables can transfer files.” If you need to buy one, check that it supports data transfer and that its connectors fit both devices. Google’s Android file-transfer steps explain the phone prompts.
Import Android photos with Microsoft Photos or Phone Link
For a wired photo or video import, connect the Android phone with a data-capable USB cable, then use Microsoft Photos’ Import option and select the connected device. For recent Android camera and screenshot-folder photos without USB, Phone Link can view and copy those images; Microsoft says the feature requires Android 7.0 or newer and does not import videos. See Microsoft’s photo import guidance.

Transfer photos and files between iPhone and Windows
Import iPhone photos and videos to the PC
- Connect the iPhone to the PC with a USB cable that supports file transfer, then unlock the phone.
- Open Photos in Windows and choose Import, then select the connected iPhone.
- Choose the items and destination. If the iPhone asks, tap Trust or Allow.
If iCloud Photos keeps full-resolution originals in iCloud rather than on the phone, Microsoft advises using iCloud for Windows to access them. Microsoft’s import instructions cover iPhone and Android photo transfers.
Put PC files into an iPhone app with Apple Devices
Apple Devices transfers files into iPhone apps that support file sharing. It does not expose all iPhone storage as a general Windows Explorer folder.

Windows can send and receive files over Bluetooth without a cable or internet connection. Pair the devices first, then use the Bluetooth settings option to send or receive files. Choose the file and recipient when sending, and have the receiving device ready to accept it. Microsoft says the other device may be iOS or Android; follow its manufacturer’s instructions for receiving files. Microsoft’s Bluetooth file-transfer instructions describe the Windows steps.

- Quick Share cannot find the other device: confirm Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are on, bring the devices within Google’s stated 16 feet (5 m), and check the recipient’s visibility setting.
- iPhone photos are missing from import: unlock the phone, accept a Trust or Allow prompt, and check whether the originals are stored in iCloud rather than on the device.
- A file will not appear in an iPhone app: confirm that the app supports file sharing; Apple Devices does not provide general access to all iPhone storage.
- Bluetooth transfer stalls: make sure the devices are paired and that the recipient is ready to accept the incoming file.
Microsoft’s Phone Link photo feature is limited to recent Android camera and screenshot-folder photos; use USB import or another suitable method for videos and other file types.
