That was a serious website content-integrity flaw—but the reported demonstration did not show that outsiders had breached federal networks or changed sensitive government records. The available sources do not establish whether the specific flaw was later fixed.
What happened on DOGE.gov?
On February 14, 2025, 404 Media published Jason Koebler’s report, “Anyone Can Push Updates to the DOGE.gov Website”. The story attributed the finding to two independent web development experts who asked to remain anonymous because they were probing a federal website.
According to the report, DOGE.gov drew content from a database that third parties could write to. A coder added at least two entries, and the text appeared on the live site. The report quoted one inserted entry as “THESE ‘EXPERTS’ LEFT THEIR DATABASE OPEN.” That was reportedly tampered-with site text, not a statement by an identified official or expert.
What the report said about the site’s architecture
The researchers, as described by 404 Media, said DOGE.gov appeared to be built on Cloudflare Pages and not hosted on government servers. That is an account attributed to the anonymous researchers; the cited reporting is not an independent forensic audit.

What the demonstration did—and did not—show
The demonstrated problem was an integrity failure in website content: a user could add text to a database and have it appear on the official site. It did not, by itself, prove that the user gained access to federal networks, viewed classified information, or altered underlying government records. Those are broader claims than the published demonstration supports.
There is also no supported figure for how often the vulnerability was exploited, how many people saw altered content, or whether it caused financial losses. The report’s two anonymous researchers and two example entries should not be treated as a measure of the flaw’s reach or impact.

What lawmakers said about DOGE.gov
In a February 27, 2025 letter to Elon Musk, Senator Elizabeth Warren and other members of Congress summarized reports that third parties could write to the site’s database and publish updates. The lawmakers also raised concern that National Reconnaissance Office budget and head-count information was searchable on the site. The letter records congressional concerns and summaries of reporting; it is not a technical audit.
The letter says DOGE.gov launched on February 12, 2025, and describes it as presenting federal agency information such as head counts, budgets, and average employee ages. These details should be understood as the lawmakers’ account, which cites reporting.

Is the DOGE.gov vulnerability fixed now?
The available evidence does not establish whether the specific write vulnerability was remediated. DOGE.gov was reachable when inspected on October 8, 2026, but a site loading and displaying content cannot confirm that the February 2025 weakness has been fixed. The cited sources provide no formal remediation statement or reproducible current assessment. It would be inaccurate to state either that the flaw remains exploitable or that it was resolved.

The United States DOGE Service vulnerability disclosure policy sets boundaries for researchers: stop after establishing a vulnerability or encountering sensitive data, avoid manipulating or disrupting systems, and contact the service about systems outside the policy’s listed scope. The stated domain scope lists *.usds.gov and *.digitalservice.gov (the page also lists *.usdigitalservice.gov); it does not list doge.gov. The policy therefore should not be read as authorization to actively test DOGE.gov.

How this differs from a separate Treasury access issue
A 2026 Government Accountability Office report found that a DOGE team employee at Treasury had temporary access to create, modify, and delete data in one Bureau of the Fiscal Service payment system. GAO said it found no evidence that system data had been changed. That was a separate access-control issue involving a Treasury payment system; it does not establish anything about the DOGE.gov website vulnerability.
