First, check your Fire tablet’s exact model and ports: some models have a 3.5 mm headphone jack, while others may support audio through USB-C. If your tablet has a headphone jack, plug in your wired headphones. If it does not, confirm that the model supports USB-C audio before trying a compatible USB-C-to-3.5 mm adapter.
1. Identify your Fire tablet model
Connector options vary by Fire tablet, so identify the model before buying an adapter. On the tablet, open Settings > Device Options and look for Device Model or About Fire Tablet. Amazon’s device overview explains how model and generation information is presented. The generation corresponds to a release year—for example, Amazon identifies 2023 models as 13th generation and 2022 models as 12th generation. A name such as Fire HD 10 gives the screen-size family, not the generation.
Once you have the model, check its specifications or matching quick start guide rather than assuming it has the same ports as another Fire tablet.
2. Connect headphones through a 3.5 mm jack
If your tablet has a headphone jack, insert the headphones’ 3.5 mm plug fully, start audio playback, and adjust the tablet’s media volume. Amazon’s specifications list an audio jack on the Fire HD 10 (2023, 13th Gen), alongside USB-C and a microSD slot. The jack lets you connect compatible wired headphones directly, without an adapter. See Amazon’s Fire HD model specifications.

3. Use a USB-C adapter only if the model supports audio
If your tablet has no separate headphone jack, check its model-specific specifications for USB-C audio support. Amazon lists USB-C with audio support on the Fire Max 11 (2023, 13th Gen); its listed connectors do not include a separate audio jack. With that model, a compatible USB-C-to-3.5 mm audio adapter is a possible way to use standard wired headphones. Amazon’s specifications do not certify a particular adapter, so do not assume that every USB-C adapter—or every Fire tablet with USB-C—will carry audio.
Check the tablet’s specifications and the adapter’s compatibility information before purchasing. Amazon’s Fire Tablet Quick Start Guides index can help you find guidance for a specific generation.

4. Consider Bluetooth as another option
If you would rather not use a wire or adapter, Bluetooth may be an alternative on a model that supports it. Amazon lists Bluetooth for the Fire HD 10 (2023, 13th Gen) and Fire Max 11 (2023, 13th Gen). Pairing instructions can vary by tablet and Fire OS version; consult the help guide for your specific device for the appropriate steps. Bluetooth is a separate connection option, not a way to connect wired headphones directly.
