These five portable projector options document ways to connect a smartphone, but they are not a ranked or independently tested comparison. The right choice depends on your exact phone, the connection method you want, and whether you need a built-in battery or can supply external power. Manufacturer specifications below are identified as such; check the precise model and regional listing before buying.

These are five documented candidates, not a head-to-head ranking. Specifications come from the manufacturers and are not directly comparable across different measurement standards or product families.
Choose a connection method your phone actually supports
Wireless mirroring or casting
Wireless options include AirPlay, a manufacturer’s mirroring feature, Google Home or Cast, and Miracast. The available protocol depends on the projector and phone. Some methods require both devices to be on the same Wi-Fi network; check the model’s instructions rather than assuming that every projector supports every standard. XGIMI’s guidance, for example, varies by phone platform, while LG specifies a shared network for AirPlay.
Wired video over HDMI
A wired setup typically needs an HDMI input on the projector and a compatible cable or adapter for the phone. First verify that the handset can output video through its port: a USB-C connector that fits does not prove that the phone supports USB-C video. ViewSonic’s connection guidance says a phone must support USB-C video streaming for its direct USB-C route. For iPhones earlier than iPhone 15, ViewSonic describes using an Apple-authorized Lightning-to-HDMI adapter for a wired connection.

Bluetooth is not a video connection
Bluetooth should not be treated as a general method for mirroring a phone’s screen to a projector. The connection guidance from BenQ describes Bluetooth for audio peripherals; video requires casting or a wired input.

Successfully mirroring a phone does not guarantee that a paid video app will show its content. TechRadar notes that copy protection can block screen mirroring in some subscription services, including Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, and Disney Plus. Before relying on a projector for a particular service, check whether the app is supported directly on that projector or whether a supported streaming device can be connected. Availability can depend on the service and region.

What to check before choosing
- Exact phone compatibility: Confirm the phone model, operating-system requirements, supported wireless protocol, and wired video-output capability.
- Native resolution versus input support: A projector that accepts a particular input resolution may display at a lower native resolution. The Optoma ML750i listing, for example, specifies 1280 × 800 native resolution and 1080p input support.
- Brightness units and source: Preserve the manufacturer’s measurement label. Samsung’s 430 ISO lumens is a Samsung specification; it is not an independent comparison with figures stated under other standards.
- Power requirements: Distinguish a built-in battery from a projector that needs mains power or a compatible external battery. For LG CineBeam Q, LG states 20 V / 3.25 A or higher; for Samsung The Freestyle+, Samsung states USB-PD and at least 50 W / 20 V for outdoor use. Do not assume a power bank will meet either requirement without checking its output.
- Fit for the setting: Consider weight, projection size, speakers, distance, and whether you plan to use the projector for travel, a bedroom, or presentations. The listed sources do not provide consistent independent tests across these candidates.
