If the Sharing tab is missing from a network adapter’s Properties in Windows 11 or 10, first check that you opened Properties for the adapter connected to the internet, whether an administrator policy restricts Internet Connection Sharing (ICS), and whether at least two network connections are present. These checks can help explain why ICS settings are unavailable, but none is a universal fix for restoring the tab. If you are setting up Windows Mobile Hotspot, configure that feature separately rather than changing adapter-sharing checkboxes blindly.
Check the right network adapter first
The Sharing tab belongs to an individual network adapter’s Properties. If you are trying to configure ICS, make sure you are inspecting the adapter that carries the internet connection—not a different Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or virtual adapter.
- Open Network Connections in Windows. You can search for “View network connections” from Start.
- Right-click the adapter that provides the PC’s internet connection and select Properties.
- Look for the Sharing tab. If it is still absent, continue with the checks below.
This adapter-selection step is community troubleshooting guidance from a Microsoft Q&A discussion, not a guaranteed fix for every Windows edition or configuration.
Could an administrator policy be hiding or disabling ICS?
On a work- or school-managed PC, a policy may prohibit configuring Internet Connection Sharing. Microsoft’s ADMX_NetworkConnections Policy CSP documents the NC_ShowSharedAccessUI policy. Microsoft says this policy determines whether administrators can enable and configure ICS and whether the ICS service can run.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
If your computer is managed, ask your IT administrator whether this policy applies before attempting to change settings. Do not try to bypass an organization’s configuration. The policy documentation establishes that ICS can be restricted; it does not establish that a policy is the reason your tab is missing.
Does ICS have the network connections it needs?
Microsoft Learn states that “Internet Connection Sharing is only available when two or more network connections are present.” Check whether the PC has at least two network connections available if your goal is to configure ICS. The documented requirement may affect ICS availability, but Microsoft does not say that a missing second connection always causes the Sharing tab itself to disappear.

- Dual-band Wi-Fi with 5 GHz speeds up to 867 Mbps and 2.4 GHz speeds up to 300 Mbps, delivering 1200 Mbps of total bandwidth¹. Dual-band routers do not support 6 GHz. Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- Covers up to 1,000 sq. ft. with four external antennas for stable wireless connections and optimal coverage.
- Supports IGMP Proxy/Snooping, Bridge and Tag VLAN to optimize IPTV streaming
- Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
- Advanced Security with WPA3 - The latest Wi-Fi security protocol, WPA3, brings new capabilities to improve cybersecurity in personal networks
Are you setting up Mobile Hotspot or manual ICS?
Windows Mobile Hotspot is not the same setup task as manually enabling ICS in an adapter’s Sharing tab. If you want to share your connection through the built-in hotspot, use Windows Settings and search for Mobile hotspot to reach its configuration page. Do not assume that enabling ICS checkboxes in adapter Properties is necessary.
A Microsoft Q&A response about Windows 10 discusses a scenario in which Mobile Hotspot may require the Sharing-tab checkboxes to remain cleared. This is historical, scenario-specific community guidance, not a universal rule for current Windows 10 and 11 systems. Identify whether you need Mobile Hotspot or manual ICS before changing those checkboxes.

- WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
- SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
- READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
If the tab is still missing
The available Microsoft documentation and community guidance do not establish one procedure that restores the Sharing tab across all Windows 10 and 11 editions, builds, policies, and adapter configurations. Before seeking further help, note:
- Your Windows edition and build
- The name of the adapter whose Properties you opened
- Whether the PC is managed by an employer or school
- Whether your goal is manual ICS or Windows Mobile Hotspot
- How many network connections are available
Those details give your administrator or Microsoft support a clearer basis for diagnosing the specific configuration rather than applying an unrelated fix.
