Firefox is free, but Firefox 149.0.2 is an older desktop release, not Mozilla’s latest version. If you need the current browser, use Mozilla’s official Firefox download page and its update instructions. If you specifically need version 149.0.2, get the operating-system and processor-architecture-specific installer from Mozilla’s official 149.0.2 archive.

Do not choose 149.0.2 simply because it is the version named in a search result: Mozilla first offered it to Release channel users on April 7, 2026, and later releases are listed in the Mozilla release index.

- Choose the directory matching your operating system and architecture. The archive includes Windows, macOS, and Linux builds, including Windows ARM64 and Linux ARM64 options.
- Choose the language directory and download the installer for your platform. Avoid substituting a different architecture’s build.

Mozilla labels the following as recommended Windows hardware, not a guarantee of performance: a compatible processor or SoC running at 1 GHz or faster, 1 GB RAM (2 GB for 64-bit), and 500 MB of disk space. Its recommended Mac hardware is an Intel or Apple silicon Mac with 512 MB RAM and 200 MB of disk space.
What Firefox 149.0.2 fixed
Mozilla’s 149.0.2 release notes list “Various security fixes.” The summary does not provide a count or severity breakdown, so it does not establish how many vulnerabilities were addressed or whether this archived build is the safest version available.

The same notes identify corrections for printing layout, generic connection-error pages, a crash affecting some security keys or WebAuthn two-factor authentication, an unresponsive toolbar on Linux Wayland after dragging a tab, shifted SVG text, and Firefox View’s Send to device action. Enterprise policy updates include management of AI features and VPN/IP-protection availability, plus a homepage/start-page policy fix.
Download safely and keep the version distinction clear
- Use Mozilla’s own download page, archive, and support guidance rather than an unofficial download mirror. Firefox’s official FAQ advises obtaining the browser from a trusted Mozilla/Firefox site.
- For Windows 10 and Windows 11, Mozilla also notes availability through the Microsoft Store in its Windows installation guidance.
- For ordinary use, install the current release and follow Mozilla’s update instructions. An archived older build should be reserved for a reason that requires that exact version.
Desktop Firefox, IP protection, and Mozilla VPN
Mozilla describes a built-in Firefox IP-protection feature that uses a proxy to mask the IP address for traffic within Firefox, with up to 50 GB of monthly browser traffic. Its feature announcement says rollout is staged, begins with Firefox 149, and requires an eligible account and feature availability. Its support page explains the feature. Availability can change, and having version 149.0.2 does not guarantee the feature is enabled or available to a particular user.
