Install Recast Right Click Tools by running its console-extension MSI with the Configuration Manager console closed. Choose Community or Enterprise, then provide the SMS Provider and Site Code during setup or configure them afterward. The current steps apply to Microsoft Configuration Manager, still commonly called SCCM; confirm supported versions and permissions on Recast’s current system requirements page before you begin.
Choose an edition and installation mode
Community has a direct installer path. Enterprise can be installed standalone or deployed as part of a Recast Management Server (RMS) implementation. Recast’s installation guidance describes these paths, but does not establish a complete feature-by-feature comparison here, so choose based on your organization’s licensing and deployment plan rather than assuming the editions are interchangeable.

- Community: Download the Community MSI from Recast’s Free Tool Download page or Community Portal, then select Right Click Tools Community in the installer.
- Enterprise standalone: Obtain the installer through Recast’s Customer Portal. This path is available while RMS prerequisites are being prepared.
- Enterprise with RMS: Enterprise can also be deployed as part of an RMS implementation. RMS, Proxy, and Agent have their own deployment requirements; this is not simply an installer checkbox.
Check Recast’s current system requirements for supported Configuration Manager and Windows versions. Recast’s Community permissions documentation, last modified July 22, 2026, describes Microsoft-supported Windows 10 and later; use the current requirements page to verify compatibility rather than relying on that separate Community page for a current version list.
Install the console extension
- Close the Configuration Manager console. Recast instructs users to close any open console before launching the MSI.
- Download the right installer. Use Recast’s Free Tool Download page or Community Portal for Community, or the Customer Portal for Enterprise.
- Run the MSI and select the installation type. Choose Right Click Tools Community for Community, or the appropriate Enterprise path for your deployment.
- Configure the SMS Provider and Site Code. Enter these details in the installer if prompted. If you do not have them at hand, or are installing on a device without the Configuration Manager console, defer setup and use Configure Recast Console Extension later.
- Finish setup and reopen the console. Site details are needed before running actions that depend on Configuration Manager site information.

Check permissions before running actions
For the documented direct Community setup, the user running an action from the Configuration Manager console must have Local Administrator permissions on the target device. If your organization does not allow that access, Recast documents RMS deployment using a Recast Proxy or Agent as an alternative execution route. Plan for the separate RMS requirements rather than expecting the console-extension MSI by itself to bypass target-device permissions.

As of October 7, 2026, Recast’s known-issue notice says customers and Community users upgrading to Configuration Manager version 2609 may find console-extension menu items greyed out. Recast recommends running actions through the Right Click Tools browser extension as a workaround. Check Recast’s live 2609 known-issue notice for the issue’s current status before relying on that workaround.
