On iPhone, you can select and delete particular website entries in Safari’s History without clearing the rest. Open History, choose More and Select Websites, mark the entries, then tap the trash or delete control. Avoid Clear History and Website Data when you want to keep other history.

Delete selected website entries on iPhone

  1. Open Safari and go to the Start Page. If you are viewing a page, tap the Tabs button, then the Add button to open a new Start Page.

  2. Open History.

  3. Tap More, then choose Select Websites.

  4. Select the website entry or entries you want to remove.

  5. Tap the trash or delete control.

This selective option removes the entries you chose. Apple also documents Clear History and Website Data, which has a timeframe selector and affects a broader span of history; it is not the option to use when you want to preserve the rest. Apple’s iPhone Safari history instructions show the current labels and flow.

If your iPhone or iPad shows an older interface

Apple’s older iPhone and iPad instructions use a different path: tap Show Bookmarks, open History, tap Edit, select the website entries, and tap Delete. Labels and controls vary by software version, so follow the options available on your device rather than expecting both paths to appear together. Apple’s older instructions describe that interface.

What to do on a Mac

Apple’s Mac guide documents clearing history by time period: choose History > Clear History, then select how far back to clear. If iCloud for Safari is configured on the Mac and other Apple devices, Apple says clearing history removes it from those devices too. Apple’s cited Mac instructions do not establish a procedure for deleting just one history entry, so do not assume the iPhone selection steps apply to Mac. Apple’s Mac history guide covers the documented controls.

History is different from website data

On Mac, Safari > Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data lets you select websites and remove stored website data such as cookies. It does not delete a browsing-history entry. Apple warns that removing website data may sign you out of sites or change how they behave. Apple’s website-data instructions explain this separate control.

If the clear-history option is unavailable

If the broad clear-history control is gray or unavailable, Apple notes that there may be no data to clear or that Screen Time web-content restrictions may be involved. Blocking all cookies is not a substitute: it removes existing website data and can prevent sign-in or break site features. Apple’s troubleshooting guidance covers these cases.

Prevent future visits from appearing in History

Private Browsing is a forward-looking option, not a way to remove an existing history entry. Apple says tabs opened in Private Browsing on iPhone do not appear in History. Its guide covers Private Browsing on iPhone, iPad, and Mac: Apple’s Private Browsing instructions.

What deleting Safari history does not remove

For Mac, Safari can show the full history through History > Show All History; Apple says Mac may retain history for as long as a year. Apple’s history-viewing guide documents that behavior.
