The company lists 56 degrees of freedom and fully rotational joints, so Atlas can reach and turn in ways a person cannot. But the striking CES routine was remotely piloted, not proof of autonomous performance.
What makes Atlas’s movement look different?
A humanoid shape lets Atlas work in spaces and around equipment designed for people. Its movement, however, is not meant to imitate human anatomy step for step. Boston Dynamics says it designed the robot to complete tasks efficiently, even when that calls for a motion outside a person’s normal range.
The company’s specifications list 56 degrees of freedom and continuous, fully rotational joint movement. It also lists a reach of 2.3 m (7.5 ft). Together, those features allow Atlas to reorient its limbs and body in ways that can look unfamiliar or almost contortionist to a human observer. That is a design rationale, not evidence that every unusual motion is proven reliable in routine production.
Boston Dynamics introduced the all-electric product generation at CES in Las Vegas on January 5, 2026. CEO Robert Playter called it “the best robot we have ever built.” That is the company’s assessment, not an independent performance verdict.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What did Atlas actually do at CES?
Atlas appeared onstage during a public demonstration at CES. The Associated Press reported that an engineer nearby remotely piloted the robot. The routine showed what the hardware could do under teleoperation, but it did not establish that Atlas performed the demonstration autonomously.
That distinction matters because Boston Dynamics says Atlas can be controlled autonomously, by teleoperation, or through a tablet steering interface. Those are different operating modes; a remotely piloted stage appearance should not be presented as proof of autonomous task completion in a factory.

What can the new Atlas do?
Boston Dynamics positions Atlas for industrial work, including material handling, part sequencing, machine tending, and order fulfillment. The company says it can connect through its Orbit platform to manufacturing execution and warehouse management systems, and that a task learned for an application can be replicated across its fleet. In practice, adopting a robot for a facility involves preparing the application, evaluating the use case, training task-specific skills, and integrating the robot into workflows.
The company’s current product page describes a 1.9 m (6.2 ft), 90 kg (198 lb) robot with tactile sensing, a 360-degree camera view, human detection, water resistance, and IP67 protection. It lists an operating temperature range of -20 to 40°C (-4 to 104°F). These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results.

Where and when is Atlas expected to be deployed?
Boston Dynamics said production would begin at its Boston headquarters immediately after the January 5, 2026 announcement. It said 2026 deployments were committed to Hyundai’s Robotics Metaplant Application Center and Google DeepMind, with additional customers expected to follow in early 2027. These are the company’s announced plans and schedule.

The Associated Press reported a plan for Atlas to help assemble cars at Hyundai’s electric-vehicle facility near Savannah, Georgia, by 2028. That planned deployment is distinct from the CES demonstration: a public stage routine does not establish that the robot has already completed factory work autonomously.

No consumer availability is established by the company’s materials. Boston Dynamics presents Atlas as an enterprise robot and invites qualified prospects to plan an application and assess it with company experts. Its intended work, integration process, and scale make an industrial evaluation—not a consumer purchase—the relevant path.
