The default port in qBittorrent’s FAQ is 8080, but it may differ in your installation. Start with access from your own network; exposing the Web UI directly to the Internet increases risk.
Enable the qBittorrent Web UI
- Open qBittorrent’s settings. Choose Options or Preferences, then open the Web UI section. Labels and placement can vary by qBittorrent version and operating system. qBittorrent’s Web API documentation describes configurable Web UI settings.
- Enable the Web UI and configure authentication. Set a unique, strong password rather than keeping a default credential. The username and password are configurable; the API documentation also lists security and network settings.
- Note the port and bind address. The FAQ gives 8080 as the default port, but it can be changed. Confirm the actual port shown in your running instance’s settings. The bind address also affects which network interfaces can accept connections.
- Save the settings. If qBittorrent indicates that a restart is needed for a change to take effect, restart the application.
Connect from a browser on your local network
Find the local network address of the computer or server running qBittorrent. On another device connected to the same network, enter http://HOST-ADDRESS:PORT in a browser, replacing HOST-ADDRESS with that machine’s reachable address and PORT with the configured Web UI port. For example, if the host address is 192.168.1.25 and the configured port is 8080, use http://192.168.1.25:8080. This is an illustrative address, not a value to copy unless it matches your network.
Sign in with the Web UI username and password you configured. The qBittorrent FAQ documents http://server-ip:8080 as the default-address pattern and lists admin / adminadmin as default credentials. Treat those as reference information, not credentials to leave unchanged. A loopback address such as localhost points to the device where the browser is running; it will not generally reach qBittorrent on a different device.
Choose local or remote access deliberately
Local-network access
Using the host’s local address from a device on the same trusted network is a straightforward way to manage qBittorrent without sitting at the host. qBittorrent’s FAQ describes controlling the application on a remote computer or server through the Web UI, including a setup without an X server. The qBittorrent host still needs to be running and reachable.

Access over the Internet
Internet access is not simply the same browser URL used at home: it makes an administrative interface reachable beyond your local network. In its official v4.6.0 release notice dated October 22, 2023, qBittorrent warned: “SECURITY NOTICE: WebUI users YOU MUST change the default Webui credentials (aka “adminadmin”) when exposing the WebUI to the Internet.” Change any default credentials before remote use. Prefer keeping access within trusted networks or using a controlled, encrypted access path appropriate to your setup. The available documentation does not establish one universally suitable VPN, reverse proxy, router configuration, or hosting product.
What the Web UI security settings do
qBittorrent’s Web API documentation lists settings for HTTPS, authentication bypass, CSRF and clickjacking protections, secure cookies, host-header validation, failed-authentication bans, session timeout, and bind address and port. These controls have different purposes and should not be disabled as a generic way to fix connection problems. Make changes only when you understand how they affect your deployment.

Troubleshoot a Web UI that will not load
- Check the Web UI setting: confirm it is enabled in the qBittorrent instance you intend to control.
- Check the URL: use the host’s reachable address and the exact configured port. The FAQ’s 8080 default may not match your installation.
- Check network reachability: make sure the browser device can reach the host, and do not use the browser device’s own loopback address for a different machine.
- Check the bind address and network controls: the host’s firewall, VPN, container networking, reverse proxy, or NAS vendor packaging may affect access. Their correct settings depend on the environment.
- Keep protections enabled: do not respond to an access problem by broadly disabling authentication or other security checks, or by making the Web UI port publicly reachable without a deliberate security plan.
These checks do not prescribe a universal networking fix: container, firewall, VPN, proxy, and NAS configurations vary.
