If you mean the Calculator app that comes with Windows 10, open Start, search for Calculator, and select it. If you mean the older desktop-style interface, a third-party project offers an installer it says supports Windows 10—but it is not a Microsoft product, and its safety has not been independently established here.
Choose the Calculator you want
“Old classic Calculator” can mean either the built-in Windows app is missing or that you want the older desktop-style layout. These are different situations: Microsoft’s current app includes familiar calculations and additional modes, but opening it does not restore the legacy interface.
| Route | What you get | Distribution and support |
|---|---|---|
| Current Windows Calculator | Microsoft’s app, with modes and tools such as Standard, Scientific, Graphing, Programmer, date calculation, converters, history, memory buttons, and keep-on-top. | Microsoft’s supported route is Start search or the Microsoft Store. Microsoft Support and the official Windows Calculator repository provide guidance. |
| Legacy desktop-style Calculator | An older-looking interface, for people specifically seeking that layout. | The win7games project describes a third-party installer for Windows 10 and Windows 11. Microsoft does not endorse it in the cited material. |
Open or get Microsoft’s Calculator app
- Open Start and type Calculator.
- Select Calculator from the search results. Microsoft’s support instruction is to “Search for Calculator, then select the app from the results.” Read Microsoft’s instructions.
- If it does not appear or you need the latest version, open the official Windows Calculator repository and follow its Microsoft Store link. Microsoft says the latest version is available in the Store.
Get the legacy desktop-style interface
The win7games project describes an “Old Classic Calculator” installer for Windows 10 and Windows 11. This is an independent third-party option, not an official Microsoft download. Its page also says the app can be removed through Settings.
Before installing, check that you are on the project’s own page and review the download and project details yourself. The available information does not establish that the installer has been independently security-reviewed, tested, or endorsed by Microsoft. Do not treat the project’s compatibility claim as a guarantee for every Windows 10 build.
#1 Best Overall
If Calculator will not open or install
The right repair depends on what failed. A missing app, a Store download problem, and an error from a third-party installer are not interchangeable issues. For targeted troubleshooting, note your Windows 10 version and build and copy the exact error message; without those details, a specific repair command would be guesswork.

- If Calculator is simply hard to find, try the Start search and Microsoft Store steps above.
- If Microsoft Store installation fails, record the error and Windows build before looking for a fix.
- If the legacy installer fails, consult the project page and identify the exact failure rather than assuming the current Microsoft app is affected.
