If your TV menus are in the wrong language, open Settings (or press Home, then Settings), find General, System, or Device Preferences, and choose Language or Menu Language. Select English. The exact path varies by brand, model, software version, and region. If only a show’s audio or subtitles are wrong, change those in the channel or app’s playback controls instead.
First, identify which language needs changing
- Menus, settings, or home-screen labels: Change the TV’s menu or system language.
- A channel or video’s spoken audio: Use the broadcast’s audio-language control or the app’s playback menu. Available choices depend on whether that program offers multiple languages.
- Subtitles or captions: Change the subtitle or caption setting in the app or playback interface.
The TV’s menu-language setting changes interface text; it does not necessarily change a program’s audio or subtitles. LG lists menu language and digital broadcast audio language separately, and Samsung says changing menu language does not alter what is playing. LG Support · Samsung Support
Change the menu language on your TV
Use the matching instructions below if your brand and interface are listed. Menu labels can differ between models and regions, so treat these as model-specific routes rather than universal instructions.
LG TVs
- On a 2021-or-later LG TV running webOS 6.0 or later, open Settings > All Settings > General > System > Language.
- On a 2020-or-earlier LG TV running webOS 5.0 or earlier, open Settings > All Settings > General > Language.
- Choose the menu-language option and select English.

Samsung TVs
- Open Settings > General > Language.
- If you do not see Language there, look under Preferences or System Language; the label depends on the model.
- Select English from the available list.
Samsung notes that the available choices depend on the model and region. Its cited instructions are from Samsung Gulf, so another region or model may show different labels. Samsung Gulf instructions
Sony Google TV (guide-specific route)
- Open Quick settings > TV options > Settings > Device Preferences > Language.
- Select English.

If a show’s audio or subtitles are in the wrong language
For spoken audio
Open the channel’s audio-language options or the video’s playback menu and choose an available English track. A broadcast needs to carry multiple languages for an alternate audio choice to be available. Streaming titles may offer only some languages; Google TV advises checking playback options, and subscription content availability may depend on the streaming service. Google TV Help

Open the video’s subtitle or caption controls and select English if it is offered. In the Apple TV app, language and subtitle choices are controlled during playback; other services may use different menus. Apple Support

If you cannot read the menus or English is missing
Use a camera translation as a navigation aid
If the interface is in an unfamiliar script, you can try a phone camera’s translation feature, such as Google Lens, to identify menu labels. Samsung Colombia suggests this as an aid; it is not guaranteed to work for every screen or language. Samsung Colombia
Check the exact model’s language support
If English is not in the menu-language list, check the official support information or manual for your TV’s exact model and region. LG says an unlisted language is not supported on that model, and Samsung also notes that choices vary by model and region. If the path does not match your TV
Use the official guide for your exact model rather than guessing through unfamiliar menus. Look for the model number on the TV’s label or in its device information, then search that manufacturer’s support site for the model and “menu language.”
